I'd guess because cars will park under there, and that would put the verticals just in the way of opening the doors.

The auditor is looking for evidence of design competence. I've just got our company through it now and he was OK with two design engineers having a mechanical engineering degree, and me being CEng. The other way to do it is to design yourself, and get a structrual engineer to do the calcs, they will need to submit competence and indemnity insurance details also.

I like it, and the flange stiffeners at each end of the connections is a nice touch, not just one in the middle of the bolted connection.
The design looks custom, but doesn't resort to full custom columns/beams which would cost allot more.
I do prefer box tubing in my designs when I can (although it's industrial fixturing mostly)
but I did do a few outside light standards and such.
I find the box tubing makes it more Pigeon resistant.

I can't believe your even asking.
Surely building a bomb shelter in your back garden is pretty normal behaviour here.
Nice Anderson shelter by the way, @Martin Hocking It'll look great with a few vegetables growing on the sides. I might even build myself one, seems like the ideal place to hide from the Mrs next time she's on the warpath because I've trodden swarf into the carpet or sat on the sofa in dirty overalls.

Cutting a long story short the chap I work for has wanted one for ages.
Finding the pieces for one without spending crazy money took a long time!

Or you could nip to one of our local allotments and have one away over night.

Won't work as they will just follow the trail of swarf and finger marks . Best to just stay in the workshop and look smug as they try to pin yet another crime on you.I can't believe your even asking.

Got some gas today and wheeling it round to the workshop from the van it felt strange.
OOPS
I had a spare sheet of 5mm alu from a cancelled job so quick design in fusion then onto the plasma with the sheet and cut some bits.
Hauled out the mig and tacked it up.
Fully welded
Popped to B&Q for some wheels, made a stainless axle and tested it out, perfect
Also the pneumatic tyres don't play havoc with the finger joints as I pull the cylinder over the cobbles, last wheels were solid and it was bloody sore on the joints. Just need to get a wee bit chain now.

There's chain on the old one, don't be wasteful - a quick citric bath for it and you're sorted.
Oh, and don't forget the padded handle grips.....
