Solar panels & pigeons

Neighbour has had solar panels installed, about 2-3 months ago.
Over the last month the pigeon racket has been noticeable as my office is quite close and always have the window open.

Clearly he already has a fair few nesting underneath, read online this is a common problem and the droppings can damage the panels over time.
I'd be surprised if he hasn't noticed, but equally surprised that the fitters didn't bird proof to stop them nesting underneath while they had the scaffolding up.

you can fit bird stoppers but theres also an issue with them as they are good leaf catchers

Thinking about it, the nesting detritus will make it's way to his gutters, not sure if enough to be an issue, but could over time..

Really common problem but bird protection is usually an added extra.

It has been common for people to go up with a handful of tec-screws and some mesh, rarely causes an issue but much better (and maintains warranty) to use a clip on system.

We had to have netting put around ours. Curiously, they were fine for 8 years before pigeons found them.
Word appears to have spread quickly in the pigeon world!

That's about the only redeeming quality of our Canadian Geese....

We have solar panels, And we have pigeons, the big fat woodies arent interested in the panels only in the bird table & are tolerated (just) because i used to shoot quite a few of them & have gone soft in my old age!
The feral pigeons which appear to originate from some way away do try to nest under there. They are not tolerated & a few are shot. The others soon get the message.

Interesting that ,as like you these are not woodies, and I've never seen these types of pigeon loitering around here before, its usually woodies round here, not these whitesh types.
Might offer, have a few 12 and air rifles but could get expensive with the 12

We get a lot of them round here certain times of year, mightily impressed by a fox in the garden once taking one out and scaling a 6' fence with it, the fight was impressive and bloody, the can goose was easy the size of the fox!

A lot of people buy air rifles to deal with woodies under the solar panels, if you are out after the geese it is a schoolboy error shooting more than two, you will never carry three AND your kit back. Just for the record, Canada Geese have no redeeming features, at all.

I control the foxes on a free range goose farm, they will take a 15kg white goose with ease so a Canadian is no problem.

I can second shooting more than two, They arent bad eating though provided you dont bag the big tough old gander! We had a gorgeous goose stew done in the slow cooker recently & it was excellent. We have lots round here basically a static population that mostly lives on grass & winter wheat.
Bit like Brent, I used to shoot on a farm that had a special licence from defra to knock a few off if causing crop damage. After eating winter wheat for a few weeks they were good eating. But if you bagged one that had been eating zos grass they were horrible, like eating mud laced with sea water & codliver oil.

General license now gives you carte blanche with Canadian geese, they have been recognised as causing that much of a problem you don't need a reason to shoot them.

This pigeon problem has only happened in about the last 5 years on solar panels opposite which have been in place for about 12 years.

Always best, getting them while they are still airborne near a car park will end in tears, indeed it has done so at a campsite nearby.

As for solar panels we have these….no pigeon issue

Very popular in the posh parts of London, how very upmarket. Makes perfect sense though but it does remove a minor revenue stream from me as I sell airguns for dealing with the roof panel dwellers.

It was a new roof, so with the cost difference in panels versus slate, it wasn't so painful. And look far better. Wish Id put them in the other half of the roof too!
