I assembled the pipes on welding tacks, then there will be a complete welding of the seams. Boiler heating system, thermal oil.

All this web of pipes will then go to the ceiling + expansion joints, silicone thermal insulation, casings over vertical pipes (protection of personnel from burns). Rotating hydraulic connections. Build in duplicate.

Very difficult thing to store, your method is probably the best as it sticks out the least.

Today I bent up a 'sand tray' to be a resting place for flasks and ingot moulds when using the Raydyne Tilting Induction Furnace.

The idea is to limit any spillages - a 'good idea' following the pretty horrendous fire that I recently experienced casting scrap aluminium to ingot. It will be partly filled with sand, which not only limits the spillages but will act as a firm base for flasks and moulds.

Bent up from 2 mm (14 gauge) Zintec sheet and 32 inches wide, the long edge was pretty much at my limit to bend on the F J Edwards. The folder will do a generous 48 inches but my arms won't !

I'm undecided whether to weld the corners. Doing so will obviously destroy the zinc plating and at 2 mm it's stiff enough not to move at all. I may just carefully dress the corners tightly shut - they are close but not perfect.

I think you would have to weld the corners, any leak of hot material into the tray & the corners might well open up a bit.

Looks good! One minor suggestion: Maybe change the grain direction on that wooden bracket that goes over the foot for greater breakage resistance. Perhaps a straight piece of hardwood and a spacer, with a lag screw, spring, and washer to allow you to swivel it over the foot.

I can't imagine it would need welding if its going to be filled with sand (as long as the sand doesn't pour out the gap!). Any hot metal will never get anywhere near the corner. However, if you want to be sure but don't want to weld & hence burn the zinc away, you could take the bits you cut out of the corners, bend them in the middle and then rivet/screw them into the corners.

If it were me, I'd weld the corners, clean the welds, and spray on some cold galvanizing, which should last for years as long as things aren't being rubbed against the corners on a regular basis. Or, as @Dr.Al said, rivet or screw on some small angles at the corner. Just the fact that it's located in a shop means that it will probably occasionally be bumped with something, which could open up the corners and leave a pile of sand on the floor.

If the cold galvanizing does get scratched, it will still help protect the metal where it's scratched from rust as long as the scratches aren't too wide, and it's easily touched up.

We are installing a DRO on a lathe at work
Those parts are for locking the tailstock to the carriage so it can be moved along the bed using the feeds on the carriage.
I made the drilled block to match the original hook , because we installed the linear scale under it .
I've cut a 82mm piece of 30x60mm flat bar on the bandsaw .
Then I've cut it down to 34mm longitudinally using the oxy-propane torch (obtaining a pretty nice and straight cut)
Then I've made it parallel , and took to dimensions 30x30x80mm ,on the 4 jaws in the lathe.
Drilled 10.5mm holes for the bolts
Then removed more material to take it at 22x30x80
Done later because the holes have to be on a specific position, Centers at 10.5mm on a side and 11.5mm on the other side .
It was easier doing that on the lathe than setting it up on the milling machine.
Then sandblasted , took them home to cold blueing later this evening

Had 2 dozen of these to make. They are Thomas splints developed around the first world war and still used in hospitals today for treating leg fractures. Made from 10mm bms bent up by hand.
