Really...... I thought the item to the left of it - mind you the picture isn't great and my knowledge of circuit boards and components is rubbish!!

See told ya my electrical component knowledge is rubbish - had to copy the picture and zoom in on my PC and still struggled

Do they do solid state contactors or is that just a plastic no see thro cover for a conventional relay?

its just a "sub miniature" relay its quite normal for that size to be black or white

looked at the farnell site... found 2 items using ref of the white thing inside my welder.... aint got a clue

Do any Clarkes have separate remote mounted relays?

no thers nothing on the back... it goes throgh to conect with the wire feed knob

is there any other bits? have checked the wiring diagram and presuming its not pre manual there should be a relay how old is the welder? has it always had a live torch? is it second hand?

Equipment without output on/off control (no contactor)
Welding power sources used with shielded metal arc welding and similar
processes may not be equipped with welding power output on/off
control devices. With such equipment the electrode is electrically LIVE
when the power switch is turned ON. Never touch the electrode unless
the welding power source is off.

So may well have always been Live torch

it was second hand.... i read on a user manual that its a non live torch??? wish id tested it more before i got it... it was meant to be a emergency welder becoz the pcb on my sealey 150/5 has decided to give up... prob would have been better off spending the £££ getting that 1 fixed
