been a while since iv posted any work... Iv taken this right from design to frame up for the customer.. fairly simple frame 40x60'x18' to the eves (12x18x5M ish for those born after 1980)

customers pleased just got the job for two more frames, one smaller one bigger...

No shortage of plant either

Its always suprises me with portal frames that the pulins do so much work in tying together the pairs of columns and roof beams. We normally run horizontal beams or CHS braces between columns on each side approx 900 down from column head levels.
Looks like you have holes in the column tops?

Yeah Iv got some C type eve braces to go in the posts (slide in the notches), personally I like to use 9x3" stress graded timber seams to give the building more flex, but the sections were bought prior to me getting the job.. equally used Chanel or angle all does the job...

perlins are/can be loaded not so bad at that span but on large say 80' clear iv added channel at the apex for boots and braces, always impresses me what 4 little bits of 40x40 box can do to stiffen em

A bit had 70 odd notches to do in 3mm plate last week that lent itself to it....

Problem is like all CNC if its only one off, then drawing, and inevitably cutting at Least one test piece takes time, more than just working the material by hand in many cases.... machine works nice now tho after fettling with the floating head design, and putting a proper machine torch on it....

No paint ? How are the colums fixed down ,are there holding down bolts set into concrete pads ?

nope last week, and yesterday rained most days heavy showers, painted and primed, brown, first pic is pre shot blasting and painting, resin bolts are holding it down onto M square pads, TBH once the perlins and rest of the ties are in these will do the best part of ****** all..

All the labour was farm staff drafted in, luckily common sense has kept ermm alive for a couple of emmm 60 odd years, High Viz and hard hats are as welcome as giving up the 20 a day habit good lads.. don't actually know what the ladder was for we had a cage on the third handler? show I reckon

yep on the floor stood up, short cut, wouldn't do it above a 40' span, steel fixer of old taught me that, him and his mate also used to pull perlins up from ladders on two ropes
