pattern batteries for big brand tools

I am slowly going cordless for my home tool kit, All dewalt 18v stuff.
I have two DW 5.00amp hour batteries. so far Ive not run out mid job but think maybe another back up would help.
I've seen these and several other copies on Amazon etc
Has anybody got experience of these? claim the same capacity and a bit less than half the price.
I cant help noticing how much cheaper this would be than buying the tools with batteries

It's very hit and miss, I've had some almost as good as oem, some junk and seen reports of some catching fire of exploding

I gave ip on them and just bite the bullet

One way to look at it is to review the prices for a 5Ah 18v battery from the different OEMs: Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Hikoki.

One interpretation of that review is if it were possible to make a suitable quality battery for a significantly lower price, the manufacturer who brings it to market will have a competitive advantage.

Another interpretation of that review is that the four manufacturers are operating a cartel and artificially inflating prices.

bought a wately battery for my dewalt drill a 5 ah one on recommendation it wasnt a lot cheaper than oem justover a year and it wont fully charge on all 3 digits just the 2 wont be buying anymore cheapies all my dewalt ones are still going strong after 3 years used daily

Just keep an eye for sgs or powertoolmate or similar to put the batteries on special. As worth buying genuine.

One of the pattern batteries I bought for my 18v milwaukee gear, refused to take charge, looked on youtube, it said to flash the battery with a 9v battery (pp6) 0n the two outer battery conations for a few seconds, It worked, battery then took charge and has been fine every since.

Personally I stick with genuine ones. The cheepest option for 5ah batteries is probably to buy a drill kit. You can buy them in Screwfix for £149.99 with two 5ah batteries. You could then sell the drill,charger and case.

Exactly what I did. Did mean I accidentally had "too many drills" for around 3 minutes until I realised there was no such thing

If they've got the wrong drill bit in them I just buy a new one, life's too short

for years i had loads of 110v gear battery powered stuff was crap . now i mainly only use battery gear its as powerfull and more convenient to carry round to peoples jobs and not fanny on with leads

Good point, well made. I don’t like leads either.

However a branded battery drill is £150. A corded battery one is half the price.

i have at least 10 chorded drills.i only use them at home now in the garage.only time at work is chasing walls and augering a load of wooden joists otherwise its battery

The last time ebay had 20% off, 2 x 5.0ah Makita batteries were £107, currently £113 with the 15% off deal. As genuine tend to last well and have a lower risk of burning your workshop down, non genuine aren't worth the gamble.

Buy once cry once! I am only a hobby user but my DeWalt stuff is brilliant and I would only use genuine.
