Sold a 1944 willys jeep on ebay guy turned up with a beavertail transit and a vectra on the back tried to part ex that in the deal, idiot

went into a local breakers , the office, as a lad ..the owner a mr burdel had in his hand some brand new unused carbs for a e type jag , I sensed there was something wrong so stood quiet and burdel said words to the effect of I dont accept your offer, find another set you " "silly man" and at that picked a hammer up and smashed them to pieces ,couldnt believe it . taught me a lesson about anoying people with tactless bids , to this day I can visulise the office etc and the guys face.

the norm was see an advert for something in the tees-side times and ring em up a couple of weeks later to see if they still had it i did it with a hot water power washer he wanted 400 quid for it but the burner wasnt working so i offered 200 and got it cleaned the dirty fuel out got rid of the soot in the heater coil reset the spark probes and its a winner had it 8 years now

Back when airguns were allowed to be sold on Freeads I put an Air Arms TX200 on as I struggled like crazy to get my stubby fingers in to the breech to load the dinky li'l pellets in, I also put an ASI paratrooper on that needed the trigger sorting for £35, Had immediate messages, One fella wanted the TX but didn't get paid for two weeks and asked me to hold it, I did, He never got back to me and wouldn't reply to my messages!!
The fella that got in touch about the Paratrooper asked me to hold that as he'd fallen off a roof and broken both his legs, He was waiting for his mate to give him a lift to mine, That was a two week wait as well, I marked both as sold, He did the same as the first fella!
I put them on again and both new buyers came when they said they would, The buyer for the TX had come a fairly long way and put the full asking price on the table so I gave him fifteen or twenty quid back to cover fuel (Can't remember which!), It's the luck of the draw with buyers but there are loads of cheeky gits that want you to donate your gear to them!!

Tried to give away ,not on Gumtree, a full size vintage glider that needed work but saveable . Supposed specialist said he would collect the next Saturday .no show or phone. i rang him and made another arrangement for following Sat. No show or phone . Rang following Monday and was told he had forgotten but was still interested as he had a buyer in Belgium for it. Too late I've set fire to it . Didn't half burn.

One I got when selling my compressor for £100 was "Will you take £50 for it because I will have to travel 80 miles to pick it up" Like it's my fault he lives in Manchester When my friend was selling stuff on eBay and anybody said something like will you take so and so for it he would reply yes, as a deposit

I sold an old trailer for £50 on marketplace, buyer turns up and says he's only got £40 on him, when I told him he'd be going home without it he miraculously found another £10

Another one was a Westwood mower, uploaded the ad about 11:30pm, just going to bed about midnight when I get a message "I want the mower and can be there in an hour"

Marketplace and gumtree are very useful. I always haggle before arrival, so I don't waste a journey or the sellers time.
I tend not to sell on either platform though as I can't stand dealing with the clunge !
If it's not on here its homeworkshop or back under the bench..until the next time i need to make some space ! for another purchase

I've been clearing the garage for the past few weeks and selling on a lot on Marketplace - a lot of messages are insulting or just confusing :

Advertised a bag of new & used copper for £50 (scrap value is over £60 but I've got no transport to take to the weighbridge), one hopeful chap offered to pay £20

Selling a stairlift, it's still in place so buyer can see it working, scammer sent a message saying their courier would come with the cash - courier would pay me then take the item. I asked if their engineer would turn up with the courier to dismantle the lift or turn up before, and could the courier fit a 5m long / 30kg lift in their van? Never got a reply.

Many years ago I sold a bath (1 month old, I'd fitted it temporarily while I was stripping and updating the main bathroom) for 99p on Eb@Y, winning bidder paid and asked me to put it by the front door for collection. After many "I got delayed - I'll be there in a couple of days" messages I took it to the tip, it had been blocking my front door for more than a month - all for 99p !

Also the gem below last week - comments or a sensible translation welcome !

Of course not. I just ignore the f***wits.

I'm guilty for this, I just feel like there's really no excuse for not posting stuff these days, it's usually way less hassle than a buyer collection.

All the good stuff is inevitably at the other end of the country.

Also...If a buyer can collect, a haulage firm could collect. (And almost certainly with less hassle than bill and his engine crane into the back of a transit connect)
