O-Ring assistance needed; replacement seals for Thermos flasks...

I have three half-litre Thermos flasks for work; they get filled with coffee each morning before I leave - all bought within a few weeks of each other some two years ago.

I noticed this week that my coffee smelt and tasted awful; I put it down to the milk but this evening I investigated further and found that the gaskets around the base stopper seem to be the culprit. They smell like the end of your finger when you've put it in your belly button, wriggled it around a bit and then had a sniff.

They're all pretty much 40mm OD, 30mm OD and 4mm thick.

Any suggestions for sources of food safe O-ring replacements, comrades..? Thought it may be cheaper than attempting to find the correct spares.

You can get the proper sealing rings from e bay for next to nothing. Although I soak mine in a bit of bleach or stuck them through the dishwasher when they get a bit manky and they come out good as new.

I've had flasks where coffee/ milk can get into the plastic cap...........starts to smell a bit then.

@DanZac These Thermos flasks, I've just realised, are supposedly not dishwasher safe... wonder if that may be a contributory issue. Am trying vinegar (old wives remedy for nasty smells) to see if that makes a difference.

@wyn I did wonder that too, just odd that they've all started to do it at much the same time!

I use wally cleaner ( sterident) in flasks. Removes pretty much everything.

I have a couple of thermos products and find them quite disappointing in comparison to a Stanley that I have. Been through loads of thermos travel mugs. The liners always seem to come unstuck out of the sleeve. When the current one dies I will find something else to replace it with

used to have one of the travel mugs permanently attached to my FLT. when they came unstuck, bit of tape round them sorted it out. (they don't fair too well when you drive over them though) this popped up on my face book feed today

The stainless flasks from Ikea are worth looking at. The ones I have, have lasted longer than the Thermos ones ever did

We use baby bottle sterilising fluid for cleaning coffee stains and buildups on cups and my Wife's travel mugs.

Is it a Stanley brand Thermos?
If so give them a call. Their customer service is fantastic. They sent me (twice) screw tops including new seal, because the seal had failed. FOC. Later on replacing the flask with a new one. I'd had it 25yrs

Sadly no, just a cheap Thermos; Stanley will be my next port of call - they do seem to be highly recommended!
