Recommendations on somewhere to stay in Birmingham?

It is looking like the better half and I need to stop over for one night ideally somewhere in the Selly Oak area towards the end of April.

We’ve been scouring through tripadviser and booking.com trying to find somewhere clean and reasonably priced, while taking the reviews with a pinch of salt.
It seems she finds a new one to look at every 5 minutes and it is driving me slightly nuts.

I wondered if anybody local, or regular visitors knew of somewhere decent to stay?
Apparently "home" wasn't the correct answer..

I know a nice lady not too far away - will ask. Don't expect a bed at hers but she might be able to recommend a place.

I guess it all depends on what you want, I have stayed in loads of quirky places but these days if I need an overnight stay somewhere convenient with parking I tend to just book a Premier Inn. Breakfast buffet is really good and rooms tend to be a pretty good standard. I tend to pay the extra for a flex booking as it can be cancelled at the last minute. If you use the service right you can sometime make another cheaper booking closer to the time and cancel the flex one.

Premier Inn is always a safe bet. Clean rooms, decent bed and shower, usually good places nearby for food and drink

If you like Indian food you will be spoiled for choice with decent pubs serving Indian food

The Premier Inn in Rubery was a quite decent night's stay for the price, and not too far from Selly Oak.

The new one in longbridge should do. I live right near there, the hotel is just opposite the train station if that helps, couple of stops from selly oak.

Train stations above & below ground and hotels near them don't do it for me , neither do hotels where they are on the main roads to a busy police stations , fire stations and A&E's ( 14 sets of blaring sirens on the Friday evening beteewn 2200 and 05,00 hrs ) Saturday night was 19 , I was bloody glad to drive to a high rise Premier for the Sunday night's stop over
Find the address and look it up on google maps .

Don't stay in Selly Oak then, the A38 runs through it and it's a primary route for Ambulances going to QEH which is South Birmingham's major trauma centre so gets quite busy.

The Old Farm in Bournville has a good reputation about a mile from Selly Oak and you've got Cadbury World within walking distance if you're a chocoholic

One of only 15 carillons in the UK I saw a programme a few weeks ago about the foundry that casts the bells.

Often when in B'Ham we've used the Gran Plaza at the NEC . good food in and out the hotel easy to get to and from as well as reasonably free of drunks and Wayne & Wanetta's & their tribe down inthe hotel restaurant , as it's not the cheapest of stop overs.
But it's certainly one of the better ones in my opinion if you like a decent room and a bed that isn't like trying to sleep on the side of a pyramid . In house breakfasts are fantastic cafeteria style , outside some reasonable quick food eateries that serve the NEC crowds just before and after shows .
