Dropped battery

What would you do if you paid good money for this:

This ain't my first rodeo so I took pictures of the packaging as I removed it. The damage was obvious as soon as I picked it up but the driver (YODEL) had long gone by then.

Soon find out what Taynas' legendary support is like. They have offered me a tiny discount and are happy that it's not leaking (!). I said no thanks. Still waiting but tbh I really have better things to do with my time.

Just in case they can't collect the damaged one, but that's an island thing suspect

I think that's where this may be heading. After I called and spoke to "Steve", I sent pics and they immediately offered me a £15 discount. Meh.

Not even sure if I'd be happy with half price tbh. Looks like a substantial drop to me and not "a light knock" (!) they referred to in their reply.

Internal damage possibly so that's a fire risk. I'd want a new one.

Very good batteries - got one in my Defender.

That happened to someone I know but noticed damage to packaging before the van driver could dissappear. Straight onto the phone to the supplier, replacement battery arrived next day.

Well they did the right thing. box it up, we'll collect it and send you a replacement.

The wording is ambiguous: "Ok no problem please repackage the battery back up and i will arrange to have a replacement sent out and the first one collected"

Could be collect first but I assume they'll just send another one out asap. I think it was insufficiently packaged for that particular drop test. Plenty foam on the top (two sheets) some on the side and the battery encapsulated in those high pressure "air fingers". They burst...

...and it cut the bottom of the cardboard. Had it hit the corner only (you can see it hit all the way along the edge favoring the corner) then I am pretty sure it would have spilled its guts out. Really needed foam on the bottom.

Still at least the terminals were very well protected.

For something like a battery I would always buy local. Any of the local motor factors or auto electrical places can usually price match online prices plus there's no carriage to pay.

I had my massive land rover battery delivered on a pallet by Tayna ,which was good,but last week they sent me a 12v motorcycle battery that was showing just 9.5v.
I asked why they'd not been arsed to test it but they'd no answer to that .They'd not refund or replace until they'd received and tested their dead battery,which I felt was unhelpful.

I have used Tayna many time and always had excellent service but I've only ever bought bigger batteries from them. I hate to say this but I would say it's unlikely they test every battery they send out. They are a pretty big player with a good reputation and their packaging is excellent to the point of being a pain. I would guess they send hundreds of batteries every day

Tayna do exactly the same and even use vacuum bags. The only issue I have with Battery Megastore is the search facility on their site is a bit crap

I always like to support someone local but they never come close to people like Tayna or Battery Megastore and you will always be stuck with what ever brand they stock. With Tayna up till 18:45 still delivers next day.

Our local branch of Halfords used to be pretty competitive, but they closed a couple of years ago, Mrs Robo went there for a battery on her Pug 308 and paid the tenner to have it fitted, the bloke faffed about for 5 minutes then gave her the tenner back and told her to take it to a garage, when I got home from work it took me all of 10 minutes to fit without rushing

As for pricing, Mrs Robo had the RAC out when her Meriva wouldn't start at the stables and the chap diagnosed a dead battery (OE battery about 8 years old) he had one on the van and would fit it for £140 odd, I politely declined and bought a better make with a longer warranty from Battery Megastore for about £80..
