Wood moulding

Does anyone recognise the mouldings below?

The larger one is skirting and the smaller one dado.

Both 19mm thick.



I only need about 6m of each so hoping to find stock somewhere!

I will have a look through my spindle moulder cutters at work to see if I've got anything similar.
With a sample of each I can grind cutters to match and run some up

Left one could be lambs tongue.Not too easy too find, we've got it in our 1930's house.New stuff might not match exactly to existing.I think I bought our last lot from ebay.

Unlikely to get a match off the shelf for the skirting. Looks like a lambs tongue derivative.

Could try somewhere like dresser mouldings for the other but recon you will need to get em made up for a proper match

and thats where a big cost arises setting up the spindle molder its cost prohibitive for such a small amount of timber to run through get a router and a bunch of cutters is an option

That's what I'd do but it's my day job init.

We had a spindle when i did my apprenticeship, doing mostly traditional cabinets was bloody rare we used it. More often used the router

If your doing a complete room or maybe just wall runs you could get away with a near match and no one will notice.Ours varies a bit around the house, three different profiles of the lambs tongue.
I wouldn't bother getting it made, close matches are available off the shelf.
I would also avoid skirtingboardsdirect as they take ages to make it up. It may have been planet skirting I bought the last from.

In my old house i took all the skirting out of a bedroom to repair missing bits in the main rooms and put a nwar miss match in the bedroom, if i am really stuck i make up bits with timber i machine in multi passes eith the router and plane, if you break it down into a few passes you can get a good match

I can match the skirtings but would have to grind cutters for the dado. Offcuts from some I made for a customer last week

@Olderisbetter - that’s a really good idea!

I can get enough out of the hall to repair both the skirting and the dado (why there’s dado in the hall I don’t know...) and replace just the skirting with an ‘off the shelf‘ near match.
