Congrats, it is the begging of a journey. Mines a bit battered but it can help to get a job I am MIET but a little too old to go for CEng now.

Age is but a number , if your mind & body are good go for it .
You'd be surprised at the number of places you can use it either in your own business or as a well paid consultant or employee .

BIL Ged was a 7 yr trained apprentice toolmaker back in 1960, he was still able to work four days a week doing his trade & was out sought by many till he was just turned 80 yrs old and thoroughly enjoyed it .
Some of his own stuff was amazing such as to scale one foot long ship and field cannons in bronze , chess sets , steam engines etc etc.

My mind is fine but I only really do consulting these days. Time is precious and I would rather spend it pursuing hobbies than working. I am happy enough where I am, getting stronger each day but also knowing I could have a relapse at any time.

I've been after one of these multi purpose folding ladders for ages but couldn't justify the cost. Picked this one up last week at an auction for only £15. A bit paint splattered but fully working and no wobble in the joints.

When set up like this its a nice height for a portable bench!

I've had one of those for years - mine came with two footplates that link together so you can use it as a work platform.
Too high for stuff like normal ceilings, but handy for stuff a bit higher (like getting at my Hi-Top van roof).
Can be handy for use on stairs also.

It came with 1 battered footplate but I've got a strip of 18mm ply offcut the exact width needed, just needs cut to length & 2 stops added to locate it.

I'll be using it next week to clear the gutters on a neighbours bungalow!

Just a small purchase: A package of three pairs of jaw protectors for my Knipex parallel-jaw pliers wrench. I haven't had a chance to use the jaw protectors yet, but I think they could be good for working with finish-grade fittings, like on faucets, heated towel racks, etc., without dinging up the fittings. They're made of some kind of hard plastic and I'm hoping they'll be tough enough to handle a decent amount of torque. Anyone have these protectors? If so, how are they holding up?

I've got the Knipex grips with the plastic jaws already fitted, they are very soft. They couldn't twist the cock off a chocolate mouse! Just don't grip very well at all.

BTW, when I was a wee lad, I think it was quite common over here to use the term "tap" as an alternative for "faucet." Not quite as common these days (but still standard usage at pubs or for beer kegs).

Are the plastic jaw protectors on your grips the same as these? Knipex makes several different jaw protectors. The ones I bought seem quite hard, and they snap on to the jaws. I don't know exactly what they're made of, but in terms of hardness and appearance they remind me of some kind of glass-filled thermoplastic. They would certainly be able to tighten a faucet tap fitting. The question is: How well will they hold up? I'll give them a torture test later today and see how they do. At about $14.00 for three pairs, I hope they last a while.

I've used pieces of copper and dead-soft aluminium in that way, as I do in my vices as well. I got these partly for the convenience factor and...if I'm going to be honest...because it was a tool accessory that I didn't already have.

No they are permanently attached to them and soft like rubber.

An old Wipac light, uses a festoon bulb so I think it's an interior light, a good sized piece of 30mm plywood, a Gusher 25 bilge pump and a 12V B&D battery I can use a bodge to fix a Makita LXT battery on to a DeWalt drill.

...a single phase motor, brand new off the bay looks decent. Made in Holland ..doesnt look like a PRC export. It's 1.5kwx2pole X 2850 rpm... going to see if it's got more umphh for polishing jobs than my 500w converted bench grinder ..... Plan is to convert it to double end....all in £65....switch was £7.50....that was from the PRC

For use with silver, I dipped pliers (not Knippex!) in a tub of Plasti-Kote. Looked very smart in blue

Last time I looked for P-K it was all aerosol though

Ah plasti-dip is the stuff, yes good stuff too I used to use it a lot for tool ID especially pink as no one would pinch pink tools on site!
