Wow I just don't have a clue what he is saying. Photos tell me very little but not least how the actual thread gets its sharpness back again.

Am I just totally dumb? Be kind please.

The tap cuts just like a lathe tool. On a lathe tool it goes blunt when the cutting edge gets rounded off so you grind the edge until the rounding is removed. On a (straight flute) tap you grind in the flute to grind the cutting face back until the cutting faces are sharp and the crest is no longer rounded off. If the tap has continued to be used when it's gone blunt, the chances are good that it's too far gone to recover.

Spiral flute taps are the same but tricky to grind without special equipment.

In addition to shaper tools, any of the old books dealing with planers will have good info. in them as the tool shapes are very similar.

The Internet Archive has lots of good stuff.

He’s cutting the worn ends off taps and has made an attachment to regrind the lead-in taper. The tap itself isn’t being sharpened.

The attachment appears to advance the tap axially as it’s rotated against the stone.

The article’s not written very clearly, I agree.
