I use petrol.......... and clean my hands..BUT I WASH IN SOFT SOAP STRAIGHT AFTERWARDS
well petrol is good for removing oil of ya hands
That's a good one - never tried the sugar addition. Vegetable oil is good for removing paint, might be good for grease too - followed by w/up liquid. If you're stuck without hand cleaner a squirt of washing up liquid and some sugar does a good job, the sugar acts as an abrasive.
must be doing some thing wrong i have to use hamerite thinners, nothing else cleans brush,s tride turps ,thinners celly and 2pack nothing works? strange
I use celly thinners on both .you can give it 2 or 3 coats while its still tacky but if you paint again when its totally dry it reacts you can spray tractol enamel the same with celly and no reaction if u paint over a week later you need xylene thinners 8 quid a 1tr tin from smith and allen in darloPretty certain Hammerite thinners used to be xylene based... when things used to work better! The requirement for the bespoke thinner could have something to do with maintaining hammered finish on the hammered paint - I've always used cellulose thinners for the smoothrite.
I used to use carbon tetrachloride thinners for the original hammerite as I could get it for nothingI like that cheap German Xylene, too.
'Old' Hammerite thinners used to be just that.
Just to correct a mistake I made in my post there but the White Spirit supplied by the brand Fiddes is completely Type 3 (Dearomatised), unlike Type 1 supplied by most. Obviously, Xylene and Toluene are a lot more powerful as solvents. I know Xylene can destroy rubber so that shows how strong it is.What is the difference between type 1 and type 3 white spirit?
