A great-niece of mine is studying at Uni with the aim of becoming qualified as a forensic photographer (or some such, think CSI ) - they apparently have to use film cameras. I can only assume that digital would be too easy to manipulate and therefore open to being contested by a defence lawyer?

Shame I disposed of all my Olympus and Bronica gear years ago.

What did you have? I like the look of the Bronicas but I think I should stick with 35mm while I don't know what I'm doing so I can get more crap pictures per slightly cheaper roll.

I've been thinking about photography again recently, I never use my Sony A6300, but for some stupid reason I want a film camera. I've been looking at Canon A1s and Mamiya 645s on eBay all weekend.

You missed the boat for cheap film cameras of any great reputation, but later all-plastic autofocus bodies are still cheap as chips and mostly quite good. I picked up an early EOS 650 for peanuts last year, and keeping an eye on others of the same era, they're not going up much.
That can't be said for the later Mamiya 645s, as they contain a fatal design flaw or two, but it's not reflected in the stupid prices they sell for.
I have a 645J, which is a great unit, but to keep it company I'll pick up a 1000s or similar, not a later one. Quite happy using Pentacon lenses on that, via adapter.

The wife's uncle also handed in a Cordura BMW motorcycle jacket that he bought a few years ago, but was too big, fits me, though not sure about it.

Olympus = 2 off Om-2n bodies with motor winders plus a selection of lenses (Inc a 50mm f1.4) plus maaany filters, and dedicated TTL flash units with hand grips.

Bronica = Squa-M body ( the motorised one), 3 off 6 X 6 backs, 3 X lenses (w/angle + standard + medium telephoto). Various filters + a non-dedicated flash unit (big Vivitar iirc).

If you need more frames per roll and are upgrading, consider the etrsi which gives 15 as opposed to the 12 on the 6 X 6.

An engrossing hobby.

Thanks, but I suspect the moment has passed. It was my S-i-L who made the initial approach towards the end of last year.

Besides, she's a young lass and can use the 'Bay....... There was no mention of budget when I asked.

I picked Pentax when I bought a digital SLR because I'd had Pentax film SLRs, and had a selection of lenses and they all fit the Pentax dSLR range, albeit in manual mode, and you can pick up M42-screw lenses (and PK sometimes, because a few other brands use that mount) on car boot sales for almost no money - I picked up an ME Super (I think) the other year for a pound or two just because it had the f1.4 50mm lens on it. Needless to say, I've replaced most of the often-used lenses with autofocus ones, but the idea was sound.

I'm the same, been using Pentax since the mid 70's so it was a natural choice when I went digital, currently have K-x and K-70 bodies with various lenses, I hadn't thought of trying the k mount lenses from the older cameras.
As most of my snapping is outdoors I like the fact the Pentax kit is pretty dust and waterproof

I have a Kx as well - getting on a bit now, and worth virtually nothing. I've thought about getting a second-hand K5 as they're supposed to be very good, but I probably haven't scratched the surface of what the Kx will do, so it's a bit pointless. I don't do much with it over winter, to be fair.

Some universal material drills, they purport to go through brick, wood, metal etc. Ideal if your drilling through a wooden frame and into stone to put in frame fixings etc. Ok, you can drill the frame first, but this way is easier, or you may want to mark the hole, or add another fixing to an existing frame,. Masonry drills will go through wood but tend to chew their way through

Hex shanks, so perfect for my use. I wouldn't necessarily drill the brick/stone with them, I would swap to a long SDS bit but saves blunting a twist drill when drilling the frame etc. I've only tried them on wood/plaster, they seem fine. Less tools to carry about for small jobs.

I don't know anything about the quality, but I have already seen Draper in your postings.
I like lids that are really closed in the "closed" position.
A bit disappointing that T8 is the smallest Torx bit, there are indexable insert screws with an even smaller drive.

that came with the gauge blocks, sort of as a little extra.


The grinding, the edge and the handle say never used - origin is unknown to me, I have never seen this logo.
