Hot toddy!

Feeling a bit miserable with a bit of a cold. Blocked nose etc. but thankfully not the dreaded kung flu.

So I asked Google if it was really a good idea to knock back a whiskey. Jury is out because there were as many results that said yes as said no. Obviously I ignored the latter!

Then one of the positive reviews mentioned the "hot toddy" which obviously I have heard of but if I ever knew what it actually was, I forgot it because apparently it's hot water, honey and a criminal waste of a decent single malt.

Having said that. It's bloody lovely!

May as well have a few, it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and the alcohol will kill the bugs.

as someone who dosnt drink, i always found a teaspoon of curry powder in a cup of tea works, even the dreaded manflu !

If my granny was visiting and any of us kids had a cold/ flu. You got the boiling water and vic in the kitchen basin treatment, you learnt quick not to cough, sneeze infront of her! It did work though. Made your eyes water

Well honey used to be the nectar of the gods and a genuine superfood with all sorts of health benefits.

Now it's industrially refined highly processed sugar from China, tainted with antibiotics with the tiniest, microscopic amount of actual honey which is really only a nod to the semantic issue of labelling.

Real honey (from a bees ****) is much more difficult to find. If the label says "product of more than one non EU country" it means it's really sugar from a Chinese factory.

I'm not a big fan of honey really (too sweet for my taste), but the OH gets a lot of honey from honesty boxes on the side of the road when we're out and about. The labels are often hand written & I doubt much of that comes from Chinese factories!

Every day's a school day. Just checked the jar of generic supermarket stuff we have and you're right

I know a few people who keep bees. Must see if they'll sell me some.

I had a horrible chesty cold over Christmas and New year so looked into making a hot toddy. We only had single malt, the cheaper stuff but still a bit posh. We also had some nice lemons, I think they were Sicilian, and finally we had my neighbours honey, we are on the edge the moors so probably about 30% heather based, very viscous. So, posh toddies. I was tempted to make a pint at a time
