I have the washing machine and the dishwasher plumbed into the hot only, does it make any difference? I have no idea but I am sure I woked it out at the time which was about 5 odd years ago.

I have no energy DDs....they send me a paper bill and I simply pay it. I just don't see the point of giving them the money when I can put it in a separate account myself and look after it on my own!

I know someone who got accidentally billed over £3k...the energy company seemed to be in no rush to sort the issue out....no thanks I'll give the DD a pass!

We have been trying to get with octopus for a few years but they won’t take anyone on for the last few years.

they took a friend of mine on last year and they were a lot cheaper than the one she had

Did have a problem with OVO when we signed up - just before prices rocketed - , our meter is an Economy 7 three phase meter (yes we do have 3 phase). Used one of the comparison web sites and found ALL E7 rates overall to be more expensive than single rate - day rate higher than single rate - signed up for 2 year deal, and printed off all paperwork (DD and monthly billing).

When 1st statement arrived they had changed us to their E7 rate, immediate phone call to them, muppet at the other end told me we should not be on single tariff as we had an E7 meter, I said "not relevant as the meter gives 3 readings :- 1 cumulative, 2 day, 3 night". Muppet would not accept this, but had to honour the tariff as we had a signed contract. Bill shows same rate for day & night now.

I suspect their system is/was not setup for this scenario.

I enter the meter readings on the 1st of the month, billing date is the 8th so get an updated bill for the previous month. Never attempted to increase our DD (even after they found they had used an incorrect start reading from Shell Energy), DD didn't cover 3 coldest months last year, but now about 6 weeks worth in credit.

Did have a clown try and get me to have a smart meter, till I asked him if he knew what an MPAN no. was and how to read it! Call ended with him apologising. OVO are now trialling 3 phase smart meters, still won't have one though - till the robbing, lying barstuwards at Westminster make it a legal requirement.

My daughter tried to set up a direct debit monthly for her gas, but they told her she had to wait three months to get the full first bill before they could do that. That was in September.

Last week they asked her for a meter reading, and the web page tells her the last reading..... which is 50 cubes higher than the current reading.

Her meter reads in cubic feet. She has put the actual meter reading in twice, and they don't believe her, and have now asked for a photo of the meter.

She moved in to the place in September and both her and the rental agency took readings, so lord knows where BG got this far higher reading from.

I had similar with my empty mums house, when the tenants left I took over with Shell Energy, sent initial readings and paid the bills for 3 months then suddenly the initial reading was 900+ cubic metres lower than it started so I went from credit to arrears, it took quite a bit of phoning, emails and photos to get it sorted.

That is a very good point, one I can swap easy, other will be a right pita, or I could just ignore it, guess which I am most likely to do!

Many years ago a customer wanted a dishwasher connected to the hot supply, did as the customer instructed and the thing lasted about 6 months

My mums washing machine was connected wrong way round by a clown of a brother in law, it took ages for the water too cool to start the wash cycle but better than that, a "plumber" managed to connect the loo to the hot water in the daughters, he was back sharpish to fix that !

OVO are "still sending" both my Wife and I separate bills for the same account number. Even though the bill has been paid, we are getting notice of in the arears for the duplicate bill. Phoned a couple of times, each waiting close to an hour, but to no satisfaction; the duplicate bills are still arriving.

It must be a thing with these people.

Our joint account is with HSBC. They write to Mrs79 in her maiden name as they refuse to change the record. Don’t know why I’ve complained no end.

New one on me. Most appliance valves come with a red and blue lever swap to suit your taste

Yeah you’re right. I was thinking as they’re handed thread into the machine the were on the valve.

We get about 3 or 4 years out of our dishwashers, they are only cheapies so I expect no more .

Re post #65 last paragraph, just had a card form OVO to say they are fitting smart meters in my area in 2 weeks time and to phone them to book my install, card went straight into the shredder.

After wasting that time on the phone to OVO, I got another email from the today saying the DD was getting put back up. Didn't want to phone them again so tried switching to Octopus, it worked, they are now accepting new customers again and DD is set to £163.

Does nobody know about the Direct Debit guarantee? In the event that a transaction is disputed, the bank has to refund it immediately and ask questions later.

The bottom line for me is, I don't like the idea of direct deposit. My life isn't so busy that I can't handle my own finances properly, and I don't need or want faceless others in cyberspace to do it for me.
