Costco 2T car Jack

Hi All,
My Costco 2 Ton trolly jack is slowly dropping when supporting the vehicle ( with a metallic creaking cracking sound every 30 seconds) , I have added jacking oil which has quietened down the noise but still dropping very slowly, bit is it possible to put new seals in or is it a scrapper, it only around 8 years old.

Getting them is the issue. The cost is another one.

I would bet if you dismantle it, and wander into your local hydraulic or bearing supplies place, they will be able to find suitable seals for you. Seal, much like bearings, tend to be made in specific sizes and types.

And then buy some axle stands so it isn't "supporting" the vehicle

A quick google, says if there is no oil leaking it could be air in the system and not the seals.

But did find one tip to try

I always use axel stands, I have heard stories of people who have suffocated with a car crushing their chest, as I often work on my own it would be a drawn out painful death.

I have tried that in the past, 60% of the time I was lucky. But some makes use seals and rings designed to fit their jacks.

Try bleeding it before changing seals. Open the lowering screw, or twist the handle to the lowering position. Give it about a dozen pumps on the handle, then do up the lowering screw and try it.

I had to do this on mine when I changed the oil.

Little while back I picked up a nice big old jack that was being chucked out due to not working.
Cleaned it up but found it would not raise.
Found orignal seal was failing apart so measured plunger for seal ID, OD and length. found nearest size (think I might have had to adjust plunger a bit to suite seal). Fitted and gave it a good bleed and now works ok

If you get as far as stripping it, try allseals in Norwich.

He will post wherever and really knows his stuff.

Never get under a car without axle stands as already been said.

I us my Snap-on 2 ton jack to lift the car but it's straight down onto Axle Stands (Halfords 3 ton are surprisingly good quality).

I'm a bit OCD, sometimes have 4 axle stands on the go but better off safe than dead imho.

A lad got crushed under a Mitsubishi GTO a while back removing the Prop Shaft, car was only lifted on one end and rolled off the stands as he undid the Prop bolts iirc.

Only takes an extra 5 mins to make it safe, time we'll spent.
