I would add, you've only one set of ears as well. Protect your hearing or you will be deaf or worse: deaf and suffering tinnitus!
Hearing loss is gradual so you won't notice it like you would a stick in your eye, so you usually won't notice after it's too late.
Tinnitus... I may offer lifelong tinnitus as a curse for enemies. Avoid at every PPE cost!

Yep - despite being a more office based engineer, I have constant ringing/whistling - I had a good selection of ear defenders and such to attempt to not make it worse.

using circular saws kango hammer breakers and mutitooll i already use ear defenders . i have partial hearing loss after 50 years of noise and dont intend making it worse by not wearing them . i tell all the youngsters to wear them where im working and will lend them my spare pair but its like talking to a piece of wood

Any time I start ANY machine/electric tool in the cave, I wear ear defenders and safety glasses. You can't take chances with bits of your body [in a working environment, before anybody starts... ]

That is the worst part of it, to know and suffer but be helpless conveying the message...
But persevere, it took over 10 years for my sister husband to finally accept the earmuffs while using grinder and chainsaw.

Guy in the office is still recovering from a thumb amputation caused by a mitre saw. Thought the slide was locked and went to make a plunge cut through a 2 x 2 to make a spike on one end, thumb in the wrong place and the saw caught and flew backwards. 10 hours of surgery later and it was back on. Not got full movement or feeling but was less than an hour or so away from having no thumb at all. Doesn't really bare thinking about

Bloke in the tool place here did that last winter cutting firewood.

Got his forearm. I think it went mostly through the bone. May have been all but not sure.

Loads of surgery and he’s back to playing guitar in his band now so your colleague will hopefully mend just fine.

I used to have the occasional short-term tinnitus brought on by power tools, motorcycling etc. - but then I caught Covid and I've had a permanent whistle ever since
Doesn't help that I live by myself, have no telly and rarely listen to music, so it can get a bit annoying. It's not even as though it's 'in' my ears, it's bang in the middle of my head, as though it bypasses the mechanical bits and goes straight to the auditory nerve.

Radio on something all the time - then I don't notice it. Its the quiet times that does it - when you notice it, you NOTICE it. Needs a distraction.

I'm in the office today - the noise of water running through the overhead hearting pipes really sets it off!
