Spotted an elderly neighbour putting this out for the scrappies. Weeeeeeell, I couldn’t let it get melted down and the box burned could I.

There’s a few useful bits once I clean them up.

Does anyone know what the five bits on their own in the picture are for please. They look hardened and the four bits fir into the tube bit.

I'd take a guess at it being some kind of center punch. As it's in a box full of marking and drilling tools.

The sliding bevel gauge takes me back... it was a metalwork project at school. Mine was cr@p. I found it years later in the old man's garage (he'd never found a use for it!) and took a file to some of the rougher bits but it was still dreadful... slacker than a Leicester girl.

Keep meaning to buy some V-blocks with clamps - I can only see one in the photos though.

The five bits in the picture are extensions or alternative head options for the machinist's jack in the photo immediately above it.

Look up Starrett S190 or S191.

The owner did not have my CDO. One is in the top compartment with the clamp, the other front right in the left hand sliding drawer. They only ever came with one clamp.

Yes, two blocks but only one clamp.

Great save!I love the compass set- I had one very similar at college 40 years ago- for some reason I particularly like the securing pins that hold the lid closed.

You won’t believe this but I have the very same geometry set that my Uncle Arthur gave me over 60 years ago. The catches failed a long time ago but the rest is complete still. I used to split pencils to get the lead for the compass.

Google "Bow pen", I've used them for putting lining on model railway coaches, you "load" them with paint (or ink)

Aha - so whilst I was OK with the bow pen part - it's actually a bow pen for very small radii. Very clever!
