Welder wanted for permanent job in Bolton Lancashire

well i started on 3 quid a week and bloody well earned it. not everyone wants to sit on there **** and get handouts and would want the job better things may come along from taking it

1990 as a 16 year old apprentice my first wage was £53 a week. I couldn't believe my luck that I was enjoying myself and getting paid for it too. The training school was the kind of workshop I'd love to have now!

Bit more info for those who guess not know.

I am not sure exact;y so dont want to say its PH rate but around £13.50 i think last i heard last year.
Easy work and 4.5 day week lots of overtime. there is lad there here that was the driver i took over from that they trained up in weekends for a couple months. he never welded So if he can do most folk can wit a brain cell. I call it `blobbing` because that what it is . Blob of weld here and there.

for tat money i reckon its a dam good statt to get iuot welding experiance to go further in welding. .

I used to drink Doombar for £2.00 a pint at the Springvale Tavern when I lived in Sheffield. Last week I was out in Shoreditch and paid £14.50 for two pints (Not Doombar mind, but still not bloody worth it)

It's expensive in Shoreditch as they have to pay for the upkeep of their beards and turn up trousers!

We always got paid by the old man….But when he employed me properly I lasted 6 weeks before I said poke it!

You're right, that is poor, I think I was on £108 per week by then at " the Austin"

Started my apprenticeship in 67 , my pay was £3 7/6 a week subsidised by a morning paper round, a Sunday paper round and helping out at my dads mates business repairing forklifts which nearly doubled my wages . Thought I was raking it in! Took until 76 before I earned £100:a week

Left school in 1965, first job was in a BMC dealer, £2-15-00 a week, £2.75 for the younger ones! On day the manager said, “we will have to get some papers signed for you, that means we have to employ you until you are 21, also you are contracted to stay here” I thought until 21 with this bunch of **** & handed my notice in. I was told “you will regret it, you’ll be back” never regretted it on bit.

We all started somewhere, and given the average age of people on here, that first job probably paid a lot less than £12 an hour...

More like £12 a week. Don't say it " beer was only 1and 3p a pint."
Actually started at £4 a week and payed £3 for digs £ 1 didn't go far even in '65 . Still managed to ride a M/C usually without Tax but always with insurance.

I was on £114/38h week when i started as an apprentice in 2007, that works out at £3/hour.

That's only 15 years ago...

Thought it was awesome in 3rd year when on a shutdown and getting double pay for an 18 hour shift... I remember imagining how fast the pounds were clinking into my bank account. When we worked it out, it was much less impressive Think it was around £8/hour basic then.

We work for the same person..

I suppose when I was on £2-36 before tax a pint was £1-12 and to fill my bike was a couple of quid . Now costs £40 to fill my bike and my wages haven’t even doubled
