Where can I get these parts?

Hey, wanting to make a set of det-cans, but need a few things. Have managed to find everything I need to make them, but it's from several different suppliers and that involves several shipping charges.

I need....

# Ear protectors
# a section of 1/2" copper pipe atleast 4-5 inches
# 1/4" x 3/8" brass barbed fitting
# 1/2" x 3/8" copper female threaded adapter
# 1/2"od x 1/4"id x 10' braided vinyl tubing
# Plumbers solder for soldering bits of pipe together and sealing off the end of the pipe
# Teflon Tape

Ear defenders are not really a problem, pretty sure I have an old set I could use lying around, but does anyone have a link to a site that sells ALL the other parts?

Ideally, the copper pipe could be purchased in small sections, don't want to have to buy something like a meter for just 5 inches, a foot would be ideal, but if not, even 1/2 a meter.

Also, I have a plumbers type blow torch, would that be enough to solder, or should I look into getting a MAPP gas torch??

Screwfix springs to mind.

As for a short length of copper pipe try a plumber, skip or Freecycle.

I had to scroll right to the end of the link, getting more and more puzzled, before I found out what a "det can" was. As I went along, it seemed to be an instrument of torture, but now I know. Obviously, I don't get out enough ..

It looks a bit over complicated to me.

Why not just use 10mm plastic pipe fixed into the earmuffs with a T-piece connecting to the pipe leading into the engine bay?

These guys can supply the stuff, but you'd have to buy enough to make several sets!

Also that project is on a US site,make it easy,go metric.
15mm pipe
15mm> 10mm microbore reducer>10mm hose.

Would still need the parts to make the end that bolts onto the block, and that's what all the pieces are for (apart from tube & ear defenders).

Would need to be attached to the block as it's aimed at picking up structural noise rather than airborne noise. Like holding your ear against a screwdriver pressed against the block.

Almost cheaper these days to butcher a PC headphone and mic, though you might need to get creative attaching the mic.

I have the PVC braided hose and the serrated hose tail to bsp fitting which could soldered directly into the copper pipe instead of needing an adaptor. The copper pipe is being used as an amplifying chamber. You can have the stuff for the price of postage. PM me your address

Use some 3/4 thick bamboo cane as a listening stick instead ????

Carefully cut it to have a sealed end at each end
Press the clean end agsainst the inner flap of your lughole ..not only will you hear sound you'll find the vibrations in synch also enhance to noise.

Don't quite think that will work while I'm driving mate. Esp when taking it up to redline to listen for knock/det throughout the rev range. lol

I've always used a large handled screwdriver the blade end held against the engine block and he handle against the ear. As long as the engine wasn't jumping around then it makes a very good listening device and it's in your tool box.

Unless you had a very long bladed screwdriver going through a hole in the bulkhead (use a rubber grommet) but you would have to turn your head to use it so fix a mirror to the drivers door so you can still see where you're going.
