Seen a few using Chinese winches, they seem to be ok for what they are. I’ve got a monstrous superwinch hydraulic on my Landy, it’s a bit obscene and more than capable of causing real damage, but it’s more a case of what I had than what I need

I love winches, I have pto ones on mine, made by Fairey before superwinch bought them out.

Very powerful, 5 gears and engine revs to control the speed, yrs ago stuck in some boggy hole, got cable on and random guy said you will need a snatch block, nope out she comes with little effort.

Perfect! (Until you're stuck in a deep waterfilled hole, and the stalled engine won't re-start )

I used to have a chunky old Tirfor, but it and therefore cable was massively oversized, so became a pain to carry in the back of the Landy 'just in case'.

Before you use it for anything critical, check the splice onto the eye is done correctly and buried sufficiently. I have bought a couple of Chinema ropes listed as winch line replacements and the eye splice has never had enough bury on it nor is the end tapered. Check Premium Ropes or Samson Ropes websites for instructions and videos.

It would be worth confirming the minimum number of wraps you need on the drum as synthetic rope is a lot slippier than standard steel cable, so the numbers that apply to cable might not apply to this.

Tip. Store the wire rope coiled up in a car tyre. So much easier to handle. Just roll it to where its needed.

I used to keep mine in a motorcycle tyre, took up less space than a car tyre

200 tdi does not do non start, none of this rover v8 petrol messing about.

I could pull out of tight roundabouts in 4th gear in my 110 V8. Awesome like driving an auto.

Very nice - I had a Jag XFRs for a while - 535bhp - loved it. 18mpg no matter how it was driven.

I had a SII Landy with the six-pot that did that. There was absolutely no penalty to towing a horse box with it.
Didn't get the upside of huge amounts of power, though.
