My mate's first car was an '89 Fiesta 1.1 Popular Plus, he was the first in our group to pass his test and get a car so ended up being des for months! We had seven people in it once on a night out, it was a wonder it could get moving! He and another mate in the front, me and four girls in the back... 
Even though the Fiesta of today bears little relation to the Fiesta of then, it will be a shame to see it go.

I remember when we were at college in the mid 80’s, a mate saved up and bought a brand new mk1 Fiesta XR2. He was so proud of it. I bought an old 105e Anglia for £220. It had a race tuned 1600 crossflow but had a blown head gasket. I repaired it and the look on his face when I flew past him was priceless…..

Wifey’s first car was a 957cc Fiesta on a W plate, 1981,…had a recon engine fitted under warranty by the supplying dealer within the first few weeks of owning it. Part ex that for a C plated 1.1, then a G plated one in white, moved onto a Ford Direct one on an M plate, then an S plate, then onto a 54 plate 1.25….current model is a 1.25 on a 63 plate, with 18k on the clock.Don’t think we will be getting rid of it anytime soon…but a shame it’s come to an end…

They've also discontinued the Smax, BIL isn't to happy about it. He's been driving them for 15+ years & is due to change again. The 'replacement' is a stretched Kuga, he took a look at one & it has nowhere near the load space of the smax! 
Ford have a serious problem in that they were way way too late to the EV party. Whilst the Mach-E is well regarded, it’s big and expensive even by EV standards. Likewise the F-150 which isn’t even available in Europe. My theory is that Ford thought they’d be able to snap up say Tesla or another then-fledgling company so didn’t bother doing much development of their own. As per my previous post I believe they’re going to rebadge some VWs but they’ll all be crossovers/SUVs. The only proper car they’ll offer will be the Mustang (and the GT, just for completeness!). Sadly I fear for Ford in Europe, everything they’re doing is reactionary. They’re abandoning what they’re good at as they’ve left themselves no choice.

Either that, or they're waiting for the other manufacturers to fully commit to BetaMax while they aim for VHS (Hydrogen cell) a little further down the line.
A lot of Ford's EV problem is their models re-design periods have largely fallen out of line with EV technology.
Transit is a prime example. It gets a pretty significant re-design every 8-10 years. When the current generation got designed, EV vans just weren't a thing, so the floorpan just isn't suitable. Yes, they managed to eek out a hybrid Custom, but that's the limit.
The new generation due next year rectifies that.
Compare that with the Stellantis (Peugeot/Citreon/Vauxhall/Opel/Fiat) equivalent, which the latest generation only got launched 2-3 years ago, means that floorpan was designed to accomodate batteries, and they currently have the far better EV offering.
But they're not immune, as their large van being a rebadged Fiat Ducato, isn't a good EV chassis either, so is outclassed EV wise by the LDV offering.
And a lot of that is repeated across Ford's car range, and due to ongoing production/supply issues, don't have the funds to redevelop everything.
VW are also suffering due ot lack of money after their diesel issues.
So Stellantis are benefiting from being a couple years ahead in development cycles, and having bought a lot of market share.
