I tried that to get the fitted in the first place and either they weren’t interested or they were asking obscene amounts, so I just gave up. Mounted them myself with a set of bars

Not sure how much is too much, few years ago I had a set of Insa Special Tracks, 287/75x16. They were horrible, with no balance weights you could not drive over 30mph as the 4x4 felt like it would self destruct
One wheel ended up with a few hundred grams of balance weights
Can find a clean picture but if you zoom in to the rear wheel you can see several layers of balance weights

My disco had them on, if you were brave enough to push through the horrific wheel wobble at 50mph everything went eerily smooth at 60. Like entering a new dimension

@Tinbasherdan severe wobble started at just before 30mph, literally the whole vehicle felt like it was going to disintergrate and I was struggling to hold on to the steering wheel, I pushed it to 45mph and gave up
From memory, 2 wheels were pretty good with maybe 100g of weights, 1 was around 300g and the worst one was probably 700g
I tried balance beads with these and was unsucessful but given 1 tyre needed 700g of balance weights its hardly surprising

I remount motorcycle tyres if it's at or over 60 grams.
Seen quite a lot at zero weight required recently, perfectly balanced with new tyre.
If it comes out at 5 grams I would not fit a weight as it would not be noticeable and the weight would fall off anyway..
I would expect tyre pressure monitors would throw a bare wheel out of balance unless the wheel has had material taken out to compensate. Saying that most of a sensor is plastic.

Yes but on occasion the combination is that far out of balance you have to rotate the tyre.
To be honest I can't remember last time I had to do that, probably a year or more ago.

Doesn't really work too well with remoulds like the the insa's etc, Fedimas seem fairly well balanced but I've seen insa's out by a quarter kilo.
Always good fun at 100mph.

Yes, my son has used them on his 110. When new tyres were fitted they balanced up ok on the machine, but in practice vibrated. The tyre fitter tried several times to cure it, but the vibration still persisted so he tried the beads & that cured it. I understand mobile lorry fitters use them sometimes.
i run airsoft bb's in my fedima sirocco, smooth as can be.
4x4 tyres can be a pain. Stick on weights can often look like a lot because of their format. Part of the issue I can see there is they haven't moved the location sensor arm as far as it could go. I can make quite a bit of difference. If the machine is showing a lot of weight needed then I will rotate a tyre 180 degrees. Sometimes this can make 50-60g difference.
If it's not vibrating then I wouldn't worry about it, most tyre places do not have the time to mess about.
The other issue is the balancer will maybe specify 60g at a point on the wheel but 60g of stick on weights are probably 5inches long. What I tend to do in those situations is either split balance so the weights are hidden behind the spokes but not all machines can do that and many operators won't know how to use it. Sometimes as long as there is no clearance issues I've stacked stick on weights especially if the balance point is behind a spoke, key is to make sure everything is clean. I run stacked weights for 10s of thousands of miles with no issue.
I really wish you could get thicker stick on weights that concentrated the weight but clearance can be an issue

yep very hard to get a good balancer around these parts too...they should have the machines calibrated regularly but they don't, tire places just seem to employ young kids who smoke too much weed and arnt bothered getting it right these days
Many machines don't even need a specialist to do the calibration. My Balco B9000 has a calibration weight, you balance a wheel to within 5g then run the program, you do a test spin then install the calibration weight which screws into the machine hub.
It amazing what you can achieve with balancing if you have the time. A friend of mine built some custom wheels for his hotrod by fitting different centres to a wheel. He had one slightly out and it wobbled. They were tubed which adds and extra level of misery. Took me over an hour of messing to get that wheel to come up 000 000 but he said he was amazed, he couldn't look at the wheel when driving because it made him feel sick because it was out ot true but there was zero vibration.
Out of interest does the yellow dot line up with the valve?

In all my years of motoring, I have tried Pirelli a few times and always found them to be terrible tyres, out of round, and no grip, had some Scorpions on my Cayenne every roundabout was a near brown trouser moment, anything above 20mph and you would be going sideways, same with some Pirelli Couriers on my XR2 (30 years ago) , just would not go round roundabouts at speed.
I ran Pirelli P6 and P600 back in the day also on an XR2 and a SAAB 900 16V Turbo and I always found them to pretty good and I can assure you they were tested to the max, due to wheelspins at every single opportunity I could easily do a set of fronts in the SAAB in 1500-2000 miles
We have Pirelli Scorpion AT+ on the D3 and they have been amazing, great grip and long life. Can't fault them, sadly they are £180 now, I got then when they were £120 but I'd still buy another set
