The other 10% is shouting "hit it with your purse" when ever anyone else is using a hammer.im sure 90% of mechanics is knowing how hard to hit things!

It must be wishbone season. I put a new one on the Berlingo yesterday as it failed MOT on Friday and it's only a couple of years since I fitted both but the balljoint was well and truly mullered. I was surprised the bolts were still easy enough to work and it went on relatively easily, the only bit of force I needed was a club hammer and 3x2 to remove the old one.
i did my 130 a couple of weeks ago ,,, race spec springs , , Ive never been as wary of coils before ,,, I really didnt believe they would ever compress that far ,,, then did a corsa the same afternoon ,, two cable ties would have pulled them . I like the look of train carriage springs ,, now they are a fine thing.

tight is tight ,,, but too tight is broken .
Just to wrap this one up, I'm defeated no more, having beaten it into submission this afternoon.
Many thanks to all of you who pointed me in the right direction. A fresh set of eyes this afternoon, and a pair of ratchet strops around the springs to keep them compressed (the spring compressors just wouldn't fit) made it a doddle.
Thanks again one and all, that's me in the Mrs good books for a few minutes at least.

Brute force is the answer.
And if you think a 206 is bad, Ducato vans have a similar setup. Usually takes someone swinging on a 4ft prybar, with someone else persuading the ball joint back in. And even then, sometimes you have to admit defeat and take the strut bolts out.

It wasn't wishbones but helped a neighbour replace the front springs (which had snapped) on his 2015 Hilux which has wishbones. Between us we had all the tools necessary and nothing in particular put up a fight (apart from getting it out). Nine and a half hours later we still hadn't finished the damn job. Most of the front end had to be stripped to give enough access.
Rather ironically two weeks later I had to replace an airbag on the front of the Range Rover (2011 plate) and on my own had it done in 1.5h. Most difficult bit of that was lifting the damn car high enough so the suspension maxed out. I was glad I had a flat solid surface to work on.
Only tools required were a couple of sockets to undo 6 bolts, a spanner to remove an airline and a rubber mallet to knock the airbag off. Have to say it was a very straightforward job.
