Very Easy/Basic Self-Build Websites

Can anyone offer me some advice on very basic self-build websites?

I’m pretty much retired now, but still do very occasional jobs and I have a website which was created many years ago. Currently, that is looked after by a guy who charges me £120/year to provide the hosting service with email accounts and generally look after any small tasks that need doing.

I also have some other work/hobby interests which would really make an odd mix if I put it on that existing website, and wonder if I could set something basic up myself? Problem is that I have no aptitude for anything to do with IT. I would have to find a website provider who really makes it very easy to create a basic site. Anyone have any experience in this area?

Currently, quite a few people seem to be unhappy with the way Microsoft 365 is "bundled in" (?) with the package to provide email function. Recent experience of their online admin help was very poor.

Would like to look at some other options.

I use 123 reg. Built mine on joomla but has a suite of tools that can be installed at the click on a button.

As with anything. You will have to put the effort in to learn to get the best results.

Haven't used any others so can't compare but I've got a nice modern looking website, email accounts etc

Check out Guru hosting. They have WordPress as a one click install.

I buit ours with wix, its not brilliant but mot difficult the others is square space. Basically find one you like the layout off on their sites copy it and edit

The 120 for email and hosting doesnt sound too bad, worth shopping around. If your going to be looking for work through it,spend plenty time on your SEO.

If you go down the wix / squarespace road, check out YouTube. Nearly all the people I subscribe to seem to have a code for either at one point or another.

Alex Steele (I don’t subscribe because he’s a knob) was using the code ‘FORGE’ for some squarespace deal a while back.

I have always used Microsoft Expression 4 - which is getting old hat now - don't think they even provide support for it. It was discontinued in 2012 - but is availiable as a free download now.

Any FTP host will do it...

That is why you need to pay for domain name and host it yourself and load up via FTP.
