I'd call it a latch plate.

I have no idea, it was installed by a dealer about four years ago. I was only told that it is a composite door.

Strike seems to bring up the most hits though I've rarely heard it called that

A keep keeps the door closed.

If its a UPVC door, they seem to be set so when on the latch the seal is only just touched when new. Roll on a few years, the seal is hard, the breeze blows through.

But when you lift the handle to lock it, the rollers up and down the door engage with their latches, and pull the door tight. The rollers are on eccentrics and can be adjusted to pull it tighter or more evenly tight.

Could you elucidate on that please?

Do you have at least two rollers above, and two below, the handle area on the face of the door, that engage with their own plates on the door frame, or just hooks?

If rollers, they should be on eccentrics - stick an allen key in and twiddle to make them closer/further from the door edge, thus making the door shut tighter/looser when the locks are engaged. Similarly, you should be able to adjust the hinges to close them up that side too.

If it's not self-explanatory from looking at it, google is undoubtedly your friend.

I've had to adjust my 2 yr old back door . . . that then gave me the impetus to adjust the front door that I've put up with for ten years . . . and when the handle snapped on the back door at my mums (I had to word that slightly differently to how I originally put it . . ) and I had to find and fit a new one of the same fixing centres etc, I realised 30 yrs ago when it was fitted, the installers obviously had lost their spirit level and rule by the time they drilled the holes for the lock, the handle etc . .. so after some careful slotting of holes and openings, and for the first time I can remember, the door shuts when pushed closed and locks tight, easily, when the handle is lifted.
