Hi all.

Hi , My name is Keith but i go under the name of island steamer on other Forums so i will use it here as well. My interest as you may have realised are most things steam (miniature and fullsize)but mostly steam road vehicles and i own a 1927 Aveling and Porter 8 ton steam roller and am at present in the process of restoring her and mainly doing a lot of boiler work. From time to time i work with our local boiler smith here on the isle of Wight.
I want to improve my welding skills so i can do more for myself rather than get someone else to do it for me but i know that pressure vessel welding is another ball game and you need special code tickets to do so.
Well i think thats enough of me spout-ting on for now so will talk to you all soon and i will be grateful to all for any info you may send my way.

nice engine i would love on of those i would imagine you will have spent a fair bit on it when its finished you could gat a trailer and tour the county like freed dibnah

Ive just looked at your Engine and am green with Envy , welcome to the Forum and please post some more of your progress with it , love a bit of steam , used to strip a boiler down for inspection once a year , split the Crown valve and the safetys , clean the tubes , then put it all back together and steam up and blow down , dirty old job but intresting! Without being rude what is your estimated budget for the restoration ?

Hi Tigman, Do you know I've never looked at what it may cost in the end but boiler work alone will be some were around £5,000 then there is new axles, bronze for bearings, other materials, the list goes as far as you want the job to go, just dont tell the wife . Only good thing is, i do most of the machineing myself or have freinds that will help. Its a bit like a drug i suppose, you get hooked.
