I belive it is the insulation on the wires I belive the coating is plant based and tastes ok to the critters although I’m not sure if it is the norm or if there is another insulation that they don’t like.

Hard / unsightly to apply for string lights, pond pump etc, but will look at that for one problem area entering shed, although ministry of aesthetic will want it in floral finish..Yep! Conduit or Trunking

Interesting. I've just read, likely hokus, that clove oil puts them off, I'm going to try a mix of that with linseed oil to get it to dry and stick in repeat issue points, bit dreamy as if there was a solution they would be selling it by the gallon I guess.
Apparently an MD activated gatling gun is out of the question

in all the years ive replaced damaged wires that have blown up never seen a rat or mouse electrocuted by it 
only a couple of mice . one stuck behind a socket and one behind a cooker its a.rse was stuck on the main terminal and its nose on the cooker casing burning away it stunk

yep ,, im sure they would rather be lions , or the likes ,,
I live catch them in the house [ mice , not lions ] and take them three miles down the road to the duck pond and let them go.
In our chicken feed shed they ate through the 25 mm blue MDPE water pipe where it comes from underground up through the floor. I ended up re-plumbing it having threaded the MDPE through a length of scaffold pipe. Lets see if they can manage to chew THAT

i ran some flat twin and earth through a duct and the rats decimated it they never touch the black swa cables

They use trunking like a motor way with continuous service stations, on one radio site we had a group that attacked alloy electrolytic caps
Had a few TT base stations fail due to them, never found one dead though.

It's alkathene and took a while to work out what size it is
We used to mess about with alkathene pipe when we were kids, short lengths were used when moving cattle.
If you give someone a good crack with it it really does hurt, I think it's that whole whipping effect.
I reckon some of that old stuff would be good to have by your front door just in case

honda do some elec tape that deters them , said to work too but its very expensive
