quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten .Family has always been opticians.
My glasses have been "ex demo" or sale samples so never actually paid retail for a set.
I have 3 sets of Nike sunglasses with clear prescription lenses.
All last about 2 years before me mistreating them badly and need reglassing.
One pair did get the scratch resistant coating and did last longer than the others, but still abuse does damage them.
I am tempted about trying online shops to see what they are like in comparison.
I see lots of the results of online shopping for glasses ,,, personally its NOT the way I would do it ,,,I've always had plastic lenses and never had problems with coatings. Re glasses via mail order; I think if you have a simple prescription, that may well be the way to go. If you have varifocals, I tend to think that they should be fitted "hands on". Anyone buying varifocals on-line and getting good (or bad) outcomes?
quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten .
simple hand soap and warm water works wonders too ,,, just a rinse and a shake and they will be good to go ,,, some of the glasses I see go straight in the ut bath before I will even touch them ,,, you would be amazed at what folk wear. The trick is not to use your t-shirt.
I worked for an optician / ophthalmologist, some such who would cringe when I did that.
Yes, I still do it, yes Specsavers / Tescos glasses, plastic.
Few years ago our technical manager introduced me to a new addiction, Lidls glasses wipes, they're great, good on glasses, your phone, then your tablette, is my morning mantra.
And they're well cheap, normally where you pay at the counter.
W5 Optical wipes they're called.
Well that's my translation from French.
i have looked and they are cheap but only if both your eyes are the same strength. mine arent and there bloody expensiveFamily has always been opticians.

yes we know but i have strong glasses with reduced thickness lenzes so bloody expensive .can get a cheap pear but will look like mr mgooI've ordered glasses online, if you know your perscription.
Pretty cheap.
An up to date spare pair in the car are definitely a sensible thing to have ,,, lost the ones on my head due to a bit of a blow when out on the charter boat whilst sea fishing , was able to use the spare pair to drive 60 miles back home .Yep but are just in the process of retiring. Always willing to support the little people where I can.
Not afraid of paying the price as would rather it right.
But for a spare pair in the glove box just incase I damage/loose one would be handy.
its not that simple depending on your script ,,, i can make 50 pairs of glasses on a good day , and I only see a pair that could have been replaced by easy readers once or max twice a week , and usually in the under 18 age group ,,, so you really need to be sure of your script and the physics before you start mixing and matching ,,Has anyone ordered two pairs on line one with the lower lens and one with the high lens then married a high with the low correctly and super glued the lenses in place in the frames?
Thinking of doing this for reading specs for use in the mancupboard as I have to have three different pairs of glasses on " The two for one priceing " .. can't get a single pair or different lenses made for almost half the price so each pair in the set of driving / day , computer & reading are costing me £280ish for each two pairs IIRC.
totally agree ,, the number of folk I see who really need glasses and only have one pair is beyond belief ,,, if you need glasses , you really do need an old pair ,,, often if you buy a new frame the optician will reglaze your old frame for a small fee ,, providing they are simple stock lenses of course ,, you wont be getting 1.7 multi coated varis thrown in ,,, but theres no harm in asking for a '' deal '' on your new script in your old frame ,,, if I told you the costs involved you wouldnt believe me ,,,,An up to date spare pair in the car are definitely a sensible thing to have ,,, lost the ones on my head due to a bit of a blow when out on the charter boat whilst sea fishing , was able to use the spare pair to drive 60 miles back home .
Thats because specsavers are there to sell glasses ,, less profit in just selling lenses ,,, I reglase specsavers frames , and believe me you can see where the savings are ,,, their frames are tragic ,, the metal bridges are brittle , and the plastic gets brittle ,, its a disclaimer signed before I touch them every time ,A lot of opticians, Specsavers for one, won’t reglaze frames not supplied by them. I wear varifocal/ transition glasses for most of the time with a plain varifocal for workshop use. Suffering with glaucoma I will not go to other than a reputable optician, they will do a full examination including pressure checks.
Optician told me to never wipe the lens dry, always under running water, if you want them to last.
Have to agree about the cheap & poor quality of frames at Spec Savers ... where can I get wider bridges and softer nose pads on the frames or frames with arms that hold the specs to your head when you lean forward over something( main cause of my glasses falling off my head? Had hoped to get Army gas mask Mk 1's (John Lennon style) with a spring arm round my ear but last time I tried no one appears to sell them.Thats because specsavers are there to sell glasses ,, less profit in just selling lenses ,,, I reglase specsavers frames , and believe me you can see where the savings are ,,, their frames are tragic ,, the metal bridges are brittle , and the plastic gets brittle ,, its a disclaimer signed before I touch them every time ,
