You might also look at using different wire. Others here have tried dual-shield wire.
I did find ER70S-6 was cleaner over the '56 wire.
Yes a flux cored will give you a tidy weld nice in verts and a certified strength I use bohler thyssen lorenzo uses hobart, as for the gas mixes universal or heavy never had any issues most apperance failings are down to the operator.

I'm running ER70S-6 manufactured (or labeled) by RADNOR. You would recommend Lincoln wire? What type? I'm welding 0.250" tubing with my Miller 350P set on PULSE.
