I would vote for any party that brings back decent educational standards. It would be so refreshing to see proper use of the Queen's English, with correct capitalisation, punctuation and spelling.

thats all very good but the skills that we need from a government are more along the lines of good financial management, law and order and so on.

Certainly, but consider this...

If the electorate were educated, the government of the day would be less likely to get away with nonsense like "Man-made global warming".

An educated electorate is very dangerous to politicians, they would rather everyone just believed the rubbish they spout in promotion of their latest taxation ideas.

Exactly ... In Labours last campaign they stated they would not introduce/raise taxes ....

We have about 127 new taxes ....

It doesn't matter who gets in, what they promise now will vanish by tomorrow evening.

Exactly my point. It is because of poor education that many people do not understand the issues that are in the news. Global warming is just one of them. If the population were better educated, these loony ideas would never get off the ground, being challenged immediately by those who actually DO know better.

I think that education is the key to a better society. Not political indoctrination, but real in depth education. That starts with making sure that every school leaver can read and write to an acceptable standard. Being able to communicate effectively is essential. As the population becomes more illiterate, so it becomes socially acceptable to be so. Then the government can do as it pleases, as nobody had the knowledge to challenge them.

Do you not feel that can sometimes be a good thing? People who are not willing to accept the status quo and who want better things should be applauded in my opinion.

Sadly I believe that ambition is stamped on from an early age in today's society, leading to the situation we have now, with so many happy to believe that the state (ie you and I) owes them a living.

Don't see that it could mean much else.

It's pretty surprising who does seem to be considering them and it seems to be the only way to get your voice heard.

Let's face it, the main 3 just keep coming out with platitudes and do sod all.
