The engine shed and workshop/barn are not part of whats up for sale. Bizzarely, nor is the trackbed (with track) in either direction. Something very odd about the whole setup. Look at the second floorplan which shows the property boundaries.
No workshop included, so im out. To be fair, i dont think i could stomach the weather there long term, but that aside, if it actually included the track bed and workshop, id have been there to view already.

How far does the track go? There are advanced talks ongoing atm. regards opening up the Hawick/Carlisle line again which doesn't look to be far from this station. You might get your own link to the mainline railway network shortly.
Can't think why but I'm sure this property has featured on TV before.

It was the last station on the old Border Counties railway, before Ricarton Junction and joining the Edinburgh Carlisle line, be about 2 miles at a guess. The place was forsale about 8 or 9 years ago as a house, someone spent a fortune turning it into a BandB since.

It's around 4km by rail from Saughtree Station to the old Riccarton Junction, through which the Carlisle to Hawick line would pass, and there's not been any development along the route so, apart from the eyewatering cost of new track, it would be doable. Going east/south-east, towards Kielder would also be possible, though getting all the way to Hexham would be more troublesome.

The costs to reopen all the way will be eye watering, and Im not convinced there would be the freight or passengers to make it viable, unlike the Edinburgh commuter bit thats already reopened.
The Old Border Counties line in its full existence never made any money, there just wasnt enough freight or passengers even taking coal to the town from the pits up here. It would be a bit wet through the reservoir too, let alone the cost of a new bridge over the Tyne at Hexham and buying back all the land the old track runs on, that the Forestry sold off, when it passed to them, once the line was closed. As for passengers there are far less folk living up here now than there was when the line was built, for example my farm through which the line passes was 2 house, 6 cottages and a mill, now its two houses, 4 people. Plus the tourists of course all of whom want their cars anyway as there is no public transport.
Even looking at running the timber out ofthe forest by rail doesnt work, as wood is cut and transported to various locations, to deliver it by rail would still require loading and off loading of a loggin waggon somewhere in the forest to the rail head In effect adding extra handling costs.
The land all around that house at Saughtree is owned / farmed by the same estate, who allowed the line to pass through initially, I suspect the shed is theirs and used. All your buying is a house with access up the old station access over-a little bridge from the road. But in the country there is always space fora shed or two.

Im sure you are correct that the loco shed and adjacent barn are part of the estate. The bizarre bit is that the track goes into it. ics on their facebook page with loco in it. If you only get the land shown, your train basically cant go beyond the platform, nor access the adjacent track.
As i said, something missing from the info.
Do you have thing "railway" beyond trackbed running through your propery.
I just love how few people there are up there. The weather, in winter, not so much.
That price around here would get you a mid-terrace two bed.

No need. Its only just over the border. 5 mins drive has you back at deadwater.

I cant remember what was included when it was sold, I was busy rebuilding my place and trying to earn a living.
Could be the B and B dream wasnt so good or too hard work, espescially withthe covid hurdle in there too. Possibly the shed belongs to the same folk, sell the station, convert shed to a house. No capital gains to pay on your own house/land proceeds. Sure estate agent would give you the gen.
We just have track bed, about 1500 pot holed meters of it. Winter isnt so bad, its only cold and wet if your not dressed properly

You have no idea how close ive come to picking up the phone on this one. But im deep into another property purchase, which looks like it might actually happen. Wrong time as always. So few stations left that can actually have the trackbed re-instated and havent been totally ruined by inappropiate additions. And sufficently out of the way that they wont re-open.
Real question is, could you get a (railway) coach up the access track..........................................

They managed to get the engine in! But doubt it was up the drive over the little bridge.
I we laid 1500 meters of track I could go to the pub by train, but my alpacas in the trailer might be upset by all the bumps when we take them out to shows driving over all the sleepers.

Funny coincidence:
The company that converted the Unimog shown above to a two-way vehicle is the company (~30min. from here) I go to when I need an official Unimog workshop - and the master craftsman there is the commander of a volunteer fire brigade we sometimes practised with when I was still involved ....
For me, the priceless advantage is that I can ask for advice without having to pay a small loan for Unimog workshop prices (a step up from Mercedes workshop prices) and if I really need them, they are rather friendly towards me.
Nice property btw. with your own tracks and some space for activitys ....
