It certainly failed vertical down!

Its a very poor design/bodge, those braces will flex because they are a bent knee, the weld doesn't stand a chance. That drawbar box section should have gone under the bogey by at least 600mm and then been braced.

Not really sure. the box extension has obviously been added later it has been brought up from another farm whilst we had water problems here. It had a 15,000 litre water tanker on it when it broke.

The old eye would be far to high for any tractor so maybe it was originally made for a loading shovel.

Made worse by the bogie being the only braked axle, it will also nod/stress the drawbar every time the brakes are applied.

Seems to me it probably would have been fine if the extension hadn't been added - all the extra leverage and force is now at the weakest point.
With the original eye it would have taken a huge amount more force to bend the plate.

When there's any weight on the front end of the trailer, the length of the box section puts a huge turning moment on its mounting point by the eye. It is just designed to fail.

I've been told to spend as little time and money on it as possible. So it's getting straightened welded and a piece of 100x100x10 box on the top of the drawbar to the top of the front chassis plate triangular.

Iam sure I would be. But it won't break again.

I don’t know where to start with this but yeh,
I do this kind of repair all the time with heavy agricultural gear and first off vertical down is not the method for any kind of stress or structural application, my first port would be 250 odd amp mig welded in position with a full v grove prep .

if I was onsite it would be a full v grove prep and vertical up 7018.
Both are assuming it wasn’t a terrible design destined to fail from the off!
But I get what you say about bosses time ext but think how bad this could have been? The man in the cab could have been strawberry jam after that 15,000l of water smushed him out the cab.
