I was given this as we don’t know what it is.

It comes in a tin, with no instructions.

This is one end.

This is the other end, it has a thread cut into it. The plastic insert does not come out.

Both ends have a ball and socket joint.

I'm sure I remember these things being advertised in "good housekeeping" magazine or the like..
Long time ago and they were £9.99+ 30p postage send a cheque too... Sort of touch

My late grandmother had them fitted to every tap in the house to save water.
I remember the water feeling incredibly soft as if it was mostly full of air.
A slight turn of the tap gave out an impressive stream of basically nothing that danced around in little bubbles of dampness when it floated down to the bowl.

They did work to an extent as it was so painfully slow to fill the kettle you would only ever fill the amount you needed.
Likewise, washing your hands. You would just not bother as it was quicker to get rid of the soap suds on the towel than try and rinse them off.
Hot water took forever to come out of the tap so the washing up after a sunday roast was done using a kettle to fill a bowl in the sink with boiling hot water and an old lady getting blisters whilst using a bog brush type thing to push the dirt around a scalding hot plate. The knives and forks just got dumped into the bowl "to soak" and then I would get the job at the end of trying not to let any of them escape when I carried the bowl outside to tip it into the water butt in the garden.

She did manage to keep her water bills down to about £30 a year from the tap savers and a few breeze blocks in the toilet cistern compared to my £300 a month even with questionable personal hygiene although the ice cubes in my house don't have the suspicious shades that hers did.
Not quite sure of the wider economic costs due to family members taking days off work for burns & food poisoning from 2 week old food bits on contaminated cutlery though.
