Tig torch connections

So, I’m looking at a WP9 torch, but confused to how the gas and electric get up there…..

Would someone like to enlighten me?

My inverter Tig set has a gas connection on the front as well as the Dinse connection, ( and a switch connection for HF start..) So what WP9 torch do I need…as some of the offerings I’ve seen are confusing…,

I’ve seen them, but…….that shows an electrical connection on one side that plugs into the inverter, a gas line to the argon supply and a connection on the other side that goes to the torch…..but what pipe/cable connects from that to the torch? That’s the confusing bit…l

The gas and power godown the same line.

The cable up to the torch has a gas tube on the inside and the power up the outside .
Sort of like an SY cable.

And....can I buy this cable with a tube up inside?
I can buy a torch....
but cable? nope aint seen any...,mebbe looking in the wrong places

Yes it's the cable that comes attached torch . And it has a tube inside to feed the gas to the torch head .

Ahhh, but I can buy a torch without cable…..but can’t buy cable…
I see the torch head has a screw on connector….but again no, cables ….

Go to any proper welding supplier and the will sell the power / gas hose it will probably work out most costly buying separates when you can just buy a complete torch some will even come complete wit the power adapter as well . generally when people refer to the torch they mean the complete thing not just the torch head which is classed as a consumable , they don't last forever .

Point taken, but, I asked a well known supplier on eBay about a torch they sell and got a very vague reply….maybe the answer is not to buy from ebay….

Yes, you can buy it with the end fittings on.

Was it Newarc in Wallsend you went to or else where? Or Heathcol On the TVTE. I tend to shop in Carlisle for such things these days.

When buying online the supplies normally quote the hose lengths. If its binzel / CK etc youll need a switch /cable and suitable plug too. Paraweld type takes a switch in the handle but youll need a suitable plug

well maybe they don't know much about what they are selling or your explanation of what you were wanting wasn't quite clear enough . I use dixons in westerhope canny little welding supply shop with almost everything you would want and decent prices to .

It was oxford welding supplies, I asked them the sizes of the gas and electrical connections for one of their torches, all I got back was 3/8”……not very helpful at all.

I'm not really sure what it is that your not understanding what machine is it you are wanting a torch for ? something old may have a different fit up but most tigs use a dinse connection with a power adapter as has already been posted .Where abouts in Newcastle are ? I could possibly show you in the flesh how the torch is fitted up .

Note that wp9 torch heads have the same cable fitting as wp17 and are interchangeable.

3/8 UNEF or UNF if I remember correctly?
I have made up my own for my wp20 torch.

Brass round bar, tap thread in one end and hose tail on the other, sf55 braze standard welding cable to it, and cheap 5mm ID pvc hose for the gas. The difficulty, particually with a watercooled wp20 with the extra hoses, is getting it all to fit under the plastic handle.

roblane65, my tig set is the Wolf 200 pro....I'm next to Shiremoor....Backworth to be precise..

So we can say it's a Dc machine and didn't come with a torch ? and the two pin connector would suggest it has HF start .

Right you'll need a switched torch , you'll then need to find out what size your dinse connectors are for a power adapter 15-25 pins around 9 mil ish or a 35-50 pins 12 mil ish . then is the gas con 3/8's or 1/4" bsp you need the corresponding hose tail for the power adapter /gas . The two pin wouldn't know without seeing it but fairly easy to bodge something up . If your struggling send me a Pm I'm 20 minutes away in Denton Burn

Chinese machines are often metric fine for the outlet, m10x1 or m12x1.
