I did contemplate using the runs as the finish but not easy on a small project.Have a look at this.
Whilst this is impressive, the bear I mentioned before used the runs of weld to create the texture of the fur and was not ground to shape - I wish I could find an image.

I’ve found that if the proportions are about right and you’ve captured a couple of distinguishing features then you can ad-lib on the rest:-)
