Hot melt glue guns

I have an old one in the shed that you have to push the glue stick through with your thumb. I used to get shorter sticks for it but I bought another with a trigger and the glue is the same diameter so I just cut the sticks in two for the older gun. The newer one doesn't fit back in it's box till you have nearly used the glue stick.

I think you don’t need a better one if you only think you want a better one. Get a better one when you know you need a better one. Wanting and needing are not the same!

But, you don't know how much better the better one is until you buy the better one.
When has needing ever come into the equation? Wanting is good enough. Especially on this forum.

I had something like that, not a clue what make it was. It had different diameter glue to the
Bosch gluegun that replaced the first one.
When the bosch died I got whatever screwfix were flogging, yes it is a bit slower heating up but that's not the end of the world.

My mate got a steinel pro400 for £25 at a boot sale, he thought it was a cheap brand but they are about £200 and a serious tool.

I have one of the old blue lidl/parkside ones which worked well but took ages to heat up.

Recently I bought a cordless one in lidl & it is brilliant. Heats up in a minute, 2ah battery does 30 mins & its nice & light to use with no cord getting in the way!

I upgraded from a wee dinky £5 Hobbycraft hot glue gun, which works fine, but is obviously limited to wee dinky jobs. Like you, I bought the Parkside cordless from lidl, for the princely sum of £7+, and have been quite impressed.

The hubby had an old Bosch hot glue gun, but I was not very impressed with it. No particular reason, just didn’t get on with it.

My cordless one is truly cordless, using a 20v Li-ion battery.

Parkside one packed up yesterday - glue coming out of the back, so won't feed any more. It has those crazy 3 slot anti tamper srcews so no chance of fixing it .

Thanks to this thread, I will probably be getting a Bosch one today, but I'd really like a faster heat up time. Does anyone know of any that heat up quicker than 5 minutes - and which cost less than £80??

TEC glue guns get a lot of good reviews.
I have the 305, does everything I want, no drips.

305 warms up in about 4-5 minutes
806 warms up in about 2-3 minutes.

Both well under £80.
I got mine from Gluegunsdirect they often do a package deal with glue sticks.

I gave myself a stiff talking to after coffee, and decided I ought to fix what I have initially (As I still have 90 11mm glue sticks left) so set about opening the tri-wing screws with an old torx screwdriver (Thanks Google)

I managed to clear the glue remarkably easily, and it's back to working for the time being.

I think the 806 is the one to go for, and on my list to keep an eye on for if they offer any special deals !

Bought a gun when I saw them for sale in poundland a while ago now funnily enough only cost a £1 as well. Thought at that price it might be handy someday. That someday has never arrived yet works OK but still on its first stick and nothing to compare it with. Glad I didn't buy a steinel pro400.

You can get sets of security bits. This one looks like it's got the 3-wing things

Yes I had this sat in the garage for over a year, then found a use for it - and now it's become an important part of my small scale assembly line - holding something in place until it can be fully stitched - for which it is invaluable.

Cant remember the name but I have a good quality butane powered one, Just fill the tank and it worked great, plus totally mobile.

I have one of those... A Clipper jet lighter

Used to have a proper glue gun, but the warm up time, mess and extra space annoy me.

Picked one of these up today for £15.99 in Lidl



Ready to go in under a minute and works really well. 20V battery or charger was NOT included.

This version is much better than my corded one which takes 45 minutes to find in the first place!! I suspect ill be using hot glue alot more often now as the thought of looking for the corded one and getting extension leads etc for certain small jobs totally put me off.

Indeed within minutes I had a quick job for it tonight and it worked great.

Wow - what puts me off using my Parkside mains one is the 5 minute warmup time.
By the time it's hot, I'm doing something else....

Even with the smaller 2ah battery it genuinely is still one minute or less warmup.

And I put a full stick through it easily to test. Straight through it didn't slack at all. Very impressive especially for £15.99!

I have an old box of stanley glue sticks I put one of them through it but they are a white sort of colour. And old anyway.

I ordered "Europe's best quality" 11mm clear and also black glue sticks for it this evening. I figure since I do alot of automotive stuff the black glue would look better if exposed on a black plastic part etc.

I have one of those as well & a similar experience to yourself - as good if not better than the corded one.

Last time I used it the indicator light went green but it didn't heat up properly, checked the battery & it was down to 1 bar. Once a fresh battery was fitted it worked properly so the lesson is to use a full battery all the time!
