Hello.

I got this turbo and I don´t have idea about 2 questions



The blue and the red pipes are for the oil, but witch one is "IN" and "OUT"?





And if I´m right, I have to connect the 2 small pipes marked in red with the same tube to allow the wastegate to work right?

EDITED: Is it easy to dissasembly and clean it with regular tools and whitout having any experience with this things?

Blue is oil feed and red is the return

Big is always the return. You absolutely NEED a free flowing return or oil will blow past the seals and smoke. Ask me how i know.

If you disassemble it it’ll need balanced before reassembly, they run to a high tolerance.
Is there axial play on the compressor shaft? That would indicate bearing wear, and if that were the case you’d be looking at an imminent rebuild anyway.

Sort of. If you disturb the rotor then it may alter balancing? I seem to remember on mine the compressor wheel was a shrink fit and had to be warmed to fit/remove.

That’s unusual, clamped with the nut usually. And if you carefully mark the compressor wheel and shaft, and put them back in exactly the same place no reason you can’t strip and fit your own bearings. If the shaft or housing is worn it’s recon time..

Oh it had a nut aswell, I may have cocked something up but I think its a shrink fit as the wheel wont seat - Im sure it would with some heating. I pulled it apart when I scrapped the car (1999 Laguna TD) and only kept the rotor - so it was never reassembled.

If your going to dissassemble it you need to mark the inlet and exhaust case and core with punch marks or at least sharpe, so when you reassemble it the turbo is 'clocked' right as the housing can normally rotate and you might not notice untill you refit and the turbo pipes dont fit properly. Also cleanliness is important any tiny spec of grit in the oil feed can ruin a turbo as they mostly run plain bearings and spin at very high speed.

vacuum operated is just new ones where the vacuum/wastegate is controlled electronically?


yes, the two small fittings marked in red need a bit of pipe joining them.... unless there's another fittings to join the actuator (gold bit) to - the feed for that is normally further away from the turbo than that?

The compressor is to make a turbojet engine, so it is not really important to clean it. The risk of reasembly bad don´t worth it.

And about the actuator of the wastegate I think that doesn´t work with vaccum. I put 0,7 or 0,8 bar and it opens the valve. This is a normal pressure for a turbo?

So are you replacing all of the housings anyway then and just using the core because you’ll be looking to produce thrust not boost so the wastegate actuator would become redundant?
Is this going in a model aircraft or something else.

No no i´m not using it in nothing in particular. I only want to see how works as turbojet. I want to keep the waste gate because whitout it, it is easy to break the turbo

you wont need the wastegate on your turbojet as fuel supply to the jet will govern RPM

Yes but I don't know how many rpm exceed the maximun of the turbo

Without trying to sound condescending, perhaps you‘re keeping your cards close to your chest, but do you know how you’re going to make a turbocharger into a turbojet engine?
Whats going to spin the exhaust turbine, what kind of combustion chamber are you planning in order to make the expanding gasses accelerate the turbine and how are you planning on mating it to the original turbo and how are you going to ignite it, how are you going to fuel it, and control the fuel delivery to keep the unit within limits.
I’m not doubting you, just interested if you actually know what’s involved.

I believe colin furze made a video on one so that may be the most popular information source. I have a turbo in the shed I occasionally think about attempting to turn into a jet now I have a lathe a mig welder etc , But then I remember what am I wanting to use it for lol
