I own a collection of marine diesel engines.

I've a client who has sold a boat, with a 1.5 BMC diesel, but thé injection pump is dead, thé pump shaft has broken, hé needs a replacement injection pump, I have two of thèse engines, but if I sell thé injection pump, thé engine becomes scrap value.

Flog him thé complète engine, for thé injection pump ?

If you sell him the pump and that makes the engine worthless you've wasted your time keeping the engine all this time. Sell him the engine.

I don't know much about engines, but surely a pump is a pump, why can't any old pump with the right flow and pressure be made to work?

Diesel rotary injection pump, CAV thingy, they're quite specific, and becoming hard to find.

Yep, and scrapping an engine to supply an injection pump.

I'd quite happily keep the block and cylinder head.

You say he has sold the boat so is unlikely to want a spare engine minus the pump that he needs to give to the new owner. If you've got two, sell him just the pump for the going rate and keep the rest as spares for the complete engine.

Sell him the engine, or the pump for the engine cost plus your labour to remove it and dispose of the engine …

I don't understand how the BMC engine has no value without a pump as far as i know which is not much but that particular block has a home on almost every canal boat this side of Hong Kong...sell the pump for a premium price and just put the block back under the bench waiting for the next victim who has frost damage or something

sell it for what you would want for the full engine if there like as rare as rockinghorse sh...it or 20 quid off if he just wants the pump let him sweat for a while

It's just a PITA, for me, and I've other things to do.

Price yourself out of it then; sell them the pump for the cost of the engine, double it for your labour, then stick a one and two zeros on the end and hope they go somewhere else, if not then you're quids in.

It will be a very precise metering diesel pump.
