Ifaics, these access problems are all down to assembly line unitary construction. Body panels like bumpers etc are the last to be fitted there with no regard design-wise to subsequent warranty/repair work.

What's next, whole body off to replace battery packs in EVs down the line?

The battery packs are well spread out and low down to lower the c of g so yes I bet that will be the case!

Oddly enough the Range Rover battery pack is fitted via the tailgate aperture so will come out the same way once you've removed the back seats.

Downside is the bodyshell needs to be split from the "chassis" to do any work on the power train, another one is the bonded in windscreen has to be removed to get the head lining out.

Well a trip to local LR dealer in Dublin, only a 10 minute drive from me secured a new intercooler hose, strip and repeat, in the luxurious caravan site workshop this time. The old hose had blown just below where I had done a DIY repair with tape, maybe a 10mm split, enough to cause a screech and loss of boost. No sign of any other damage to intercooler or hoses. I'll maybe take it out for a clean in future. Hopefully thats the dramas over.

Excellent! Glad you could get it fixed as a fellow Landy owner, it's good to see you carry the tools 'just in case' (I have a full tool kit in both the 90 and the P38 )

Was it rubbing anywhere? I know on the freelander 1, the top intercooler hoses on the TD4 used to rub on the engine covers and end up with a hole. When this happened on the one we owned for a short time (horrid car) I used the old hose to wrap around the new one to protect the rub points. Just a suggestion, dont know if its a problem or not on this one.

The rover diesel engine was actually better than the BMW one but they chose BMW instead
Freelander 2 in a different league to the earlier model.

I have heard that. I would have hated that car with any engine though.....

I have no experience of the F2. But just thought i would chip in with the suggestion to use the old hose to wrap the new one at any potential rub points. Cut lengthways wrap around and secure with a few cable ties.

check for oil in the old hose too ,,, just something to let you know whats going on further up the line , or down the road ,,, still a nice enough day to be playing in the sun.

Who would want a modern reliable car holidays would be so boring without spanners. I have to say though that in 4 1/2 years and 75000 miles, apart from those 2 hoses and 2 tailgate switches the Freelander 2 has been brilliant. Hope this was just a blip and normal service resumed.

Nowhere obvious unfortunately but good tip.

Just a little oil mist, nothing of significance I'd think.
