Recommend me a MIG Welder

Can you good folk please recommend me a relatively inexpensive mig welder. I have an arc welder and I have gas welded before but never used a mig.

I need it to repair the chassis on my Navara pick up truck.

It needs to run off std 240v mains.

So what should I buy??

Thanks for that recommendation - I'll take a look.

What is the consensus on gas vs gasless - bearing in mind I wouldn't be using it often?

The R-tech looks like a nice bit of kit - but as its not something I will be using regularly, I'd like if possible to spend a little less than that...

If your only going to use the welder once. It would be cheaper to pay someone to weld it for you?

I had a crosarc 171c, got to say did quite a bit of welding with that, heavy as not inverter model.
Parts Xed it against a Crosarc 291c, again bloody heavy but it has also done quite a bit of welding.

Maybe have a look for a 2nd hand mig any make, marketplace etc.

I would go gas all the time, when storing the machine take the wire reel out and keep it in the house.

I thought Nissan were doing some sort of buy back on the chassis effected cars?

oxford gets my vote ,, as long as you dont have to lift it .

Gas every time , small gasless welders are a pita , remember to budget a couple of hundred for a pay as you go gas bottle too ,,,

No doubt on this Kempis Minarc Mig 200amp, fantastic machine and so easy to use all you need to do is be there.Can be bought for a good price on auction sites.

Thanks for that advice. Yes Nissan were doing a buy back - i think its finished now -they did offer to buy mine back a few years ago, but I'd rather keep it - the chassis on then are shocking though! just not rust protected at all - seem to rot from the inside out - all the body panels are fine, totally rust free - chassis is a different matter.

Shoot me down here, but if Monster already has an arc welder then surely he doesn't need a super powerful MIG. What about something like the Uptime or Static Arc products that have been mentioned a few times on here?

I agree here, but once you start welding a chassis itll be a yearly task. I loved my navara, but during CoVid used prices were daft so sold it for 2k more than Id been offered a year before as a trade in on a new one. And when you cant go out having two pickups stood doing nothing is daft so kept the izusu As it was newer and less miles.

Mine too, but in reality any 150 / 180amp mig with gas will do the work. Another option on a budget is the clarke stuff but get a proper gas bottle dont waste time and effort on those daft little ones. Look for a minimum current of 30 amps, some of the real cheap junk dont go low enough for thin stuff.

if you cant get the truck inside out the wind paying someone might be best, mig outside is fraught with issues except on super calm days.

Id say second hand is your best option if it won't be used. A known brand and definitely a gas one. Hopefully even some gas with it to get you through for a while.
