Fobco 7/8 Jacobs No.34

Hi folks, can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have a Fobco 7/8 pillar drill which I'm pretty sure is a 2MT. Yestereday the little flat tang bit at the end of the taper somehow snapped & the taper fell out, so I want to get a replacement.
On the other end of the arbor is a Jacobs No.34 1/2" (1-13mm) keyed chuck, but I don't know what size of taper goes into the back of it, can anyone tell me? I did a little bit of Googleing and there seems to be multiple combinations of tapers, in my ignorance I assumed there'd be just 1 standard size.
Do I need any special gadgetry for getting the chuck off the arbor? Should I just buy a new all in one 2MT and chuck? Or should I stick with the 2 part system? Thanks

The 7 Eight is definitely 2MT in the spindle

Jacobs chuck is JT6 taper

If I was you I'd get a new keyless chuck and adaptor, much nicer to use

Thanks. I used to have a keyless chuck on an Axminster drill that I used to have but it never seemed to grip the drill bits hard enough. Are there particular brands that are best? Or do keyed chucks just grip better?

If the chucks still good, just change the arbour 2mt to JT6 can be aquired for under a £10 from rdg/chronos etc
You will need to make up or purchase some wedges to swap the tapers, search the forum its been discussed on here many times

If you don't do any/much in the way of small drills (< 3mm) then consider finding a 3 to 16 mm keyed chuck. Much more useful imo.

Similarly, if you use large hole saws at all, stay well away from keyless.

The chuck in 7 Eight is 16mm keyless, clamps drill bits fine tightened by hand but it does have holes for a C spanner if you need to give it bit more of a tweak

I have a Metabo keyless 3-16mm on my Meddings. Been there for around 27 yrs and still good. Agree with hole saws, but not difficult to undo with a C wrench (or two pipe spanners )
