What’s going on with Royal Mail?

They really seem to struggle to get anything right at the moment. A parcel which I need was due for delivery today and they managed to deliver it to a place 17 miles away.
More of the mail we get delivered is for other people which I put back in the post box, but one has to wonder how much of our stuff is being mis delivered. I guess not everyone could bothered to shove it back in the box to be re delivered.
It’s got to the point that I won’t order off online places is they use RM. Such a shame but they really couldn’t find their own backsides in the dark if they used both hands.

I find the polar opposite to be true. RM and Parcel Force are currently the best of the lot.

Find Royal Mail excellent, both inward and outward, and amazingly no issues with Hermes or whatever they are now calling themselves. Amazon, on the other hand are rubbish with illiterate delivery drivers with hardly any grasp of English.

rm are normaly good on most stuff certain size parsels there are some that dont even try to deliver just throw a card in and run away

other half father heard the letter box go went down after getting off the loo and had to remove stuff out the way to get out the front door looked out postie 100 yards up the road we to him and asked for the parsel

his reply "sorry a rm van went by so i asked if he could drop it back to the post office rather than me carry it"

but these are few and far between

In our office, there's currently about 10people off with COVID. Posties getting shuffled around onto rounds they don't normally do, mail getting left in the office. Might be relevant in your sorting office too.

Duuno.
I stick a stamp on stuff, shove it in a post box. It arrives.

Similar seems to be happening to other people, as I get stuff shoved through the letter box.

Only thing they do that I wish they wouldn't, is post me stuff for special offers at specsaves, discount sales here, there and everywhere etc - but I guess they get paid to do it, and that helps 'em keeping on going.

We’ve had issues in the past with RM, of late it’s been pretty good. No missing parcels, most things arriving on time.

Amazing that you could get in contact with Hermes really. No phone number or email address to be found on their website.

That's ok. There are also just some posties that are just rubbish! Maybe you normal one was on holiday and you got a replacement that was terrible at their job

I think if you have regular Postmen (not their bowel movements) then it's not an issue. But temps are probably the reason.

Agree, our postie knows where to leave parcels if we're not in, so never have a problem really.


I sent a small parcel/letter to Manitoba, Canada last week Royal Mail price was £12.80 (including 0.60p collection fee from my house, cheaper than the fuel cost to take it to the sorting office) for tracked airmail, the cheapest other option was some unknown internet name from about £30-00 up to £64-00 for FedEx, if I remember correctly. Sometimes RM do surprise you.

I don’t think so. The regular Postie came at his normal time so this must have been Parcel Force or summat. Normal Postie is great, even to the point where I am now the default parcel drop for our street when everyone is out. Another joy of WFH

Anyway, I digress. Deffo not the Postie or probably even the local sorting office. I called RM with the tracking number and they confirmed it was delivered to a completely different postcode, I.e. not even starting with the same 1st character. This is the bit I don’t understand. I thought this was all automated.

Different note. Local Evri guy is perfect. His predecessor was a complete knobber though. These couriers do seem to be highly dependent on having good drivers.

You will be lucky, regarding tracking - once it leaves our shores - I would guess?

Package collected Monday>RM Langley world wide distribution centre on Tuesday, at 08.08. I also checked on Canada Mail tracking Site it shows collection time UK and the transfer time to Canada Mail at Langley, so we'll just have to wait and see, once it's across the pond...and Canadian Customs have had a look see, then onwards to Manitoba.....

Yes same here 14mls. But 60p for collection is peanuts. Rarely need that though.

Royal Mail are by far and away the best down here. Perhaps being a rural community with local drivers makes the difference.

I've also posted stuff to the Highlands and had it arrive next morning which is good service. Yodel / Dickies were the best, had a phone call yesterday asking um where did I live because they just had the village on it, no house name.

Not so sure about parcelforce. I was expecting a parcel and was at home all day, 10.50 I get an email telling me the parcel had been delivered and signed for by a name I don't know.Now as I was home I know the bell wasn't rang or the knocker knocked.Phoned up parcel force who told me it was delivered to 128 by mistake, I live at 122. Checked with 128, no parcel delivered and not the name signed for.Checked 2 houses either side and 4 accross the road, no one had the parcel or know the name. Luckily the suppliers took it up with parcel force who decided it was "lost". I got a replacement but who knows what happened to my parcel.
