Side chisel.......

I bought one of these today after seeing it on YouTube being used to remove putty. I'd never heard of them before. They are designed to be hammered on the blunt side and worked great to get the old hard putty out of this sash.

Fair amount of work in this to get it cleaned up and painted before reglazing.

Wait until you accidentally grab the side of the chisel.

Get a router with a top bearing cutter clamp a board inline and and run it around the sashes.

These are very handy for that sort of work

Can have that sash back to bare wood in a few minuites

Used to have a relatively large side chisel for separating spotwelds after been drilled.

Could give it some proper drashing.

Good tool had one in me box for years . the replacement tungstens are sill money though

Aye but double sided and last a good while. One box is still over half full after 4 years.

They do last a canny time , when I wanted some it seemed the only place I could them was decoraters merchants .
havn't bought any for some time now .

I've still got my dad's home made one, but he used to call it a hacking knife.

You could probably make a very good hacking knife out of a machine hacksaw blade. For hitting it, a soft hammer would be required.

Does the hacking knife have a single or a double bevel on it (like a chisel or woodworking marking knife)?

I am very confused concerning which hand you hold the chisel in.

I am very confused concerning which hand you hold the chisel in.

It's the DeWalt one I bought, I held it in my left hand and hammer in my right and worked along the putty in the sash from right to left.
