Crude swirler vanes for the furnace nozzle, seems to have worked a treat and cut down the flame outs. Only downside is the blower struggles to get more than say 50% of the air past but you can't win it all.

P.s any large white smoke rising over Glasgow Airport isn't a plane crash

The primer has been applied. Inconvenient places, painted with a roller, 1 layer. The wheels are bolted to the still sticky paint, it is inconvenient to move the chest without wheels. The castor wheels are on ball bearings and the heavy chest moves effortlessly.

A sheet of steel, 3 mm thick, stole the height of the flanging. She is wonderfully done in her own right. Losing rolled bolts and small parts, as always, is inopportune. And a place for a rubber sheet, would also steal the place. Therefore, the Raptor will be applied.

I will try to modify it with a special UHMWPE powder (I'll see how the Raptor + powder will be applied, with a roller and a brush). Is there enough fluidity? Hmm.


After the Raptor, I can cover it with duct tape and then spray paint it with hammer paint.

My furnace for melting copper: ceramic brick ribbon burner + propane + hairdryer for inflating mattresses. Smoke from heavy fuel, the locals will not approve, so gas. Judging by your photo, the metal is not warmed up to optimal fluidity or the form was cold.

A couple of simple-ish things made today.

The first of these was a simple brass screw to replace a steel screw:

It goes here, on the side of my router plane, to hold the fence in place:

It was a bit of an awkward job: Veritas use daft american threads and I don't have a 5/16" UNF die. I figured I'd just thread cut it on the lathe, but it seems I also don't have the right gears to cut a 32 TPI thread (I thought I could do all of the common TPI pitches, but I need one extra gear to do 32 TPI, so that's another job for the list).

Anyway, in civilised units, 5/16" UNF is 4.83 mm diameter and 0.79 mm pitch, so I turned the shaft down to about 4.8 mm and used an M5 (0.8 mm pitch) split die, with the split closed up as much as I could. After running the die up and down the shaft a few times, it fit the tapped hole nicely.


Today I also cut up a hand saw:

The steel was a lot harder than I expected, so making those 19 mm diameter holes was very much not fun.

It gets squeezed between the two plates of my recently acquired Stanley #55:

The main fence has a fine adjuster so it's easy to position the saw blade in the right place and then the other fence slides up and sandwiches a board:

It can then be used to cut a kerf all the way round a board, ready for resawing:

After making that, I sawed the board the rest of the way through, all the time wishing I had space for a bandsaw

Yea was a bit of cold form and copper albeit it ran like water. Still loads of crud in the steel crucible, think some of it didn't melt as crucible was made from an oxygen bottle so very thick base.

Still fun to play around with and a learning process.

Having to fend for myself / play nursemaid with the rest of the family down with Covid, I thought I'd experiment in the kitchen.

Leftover tuna, cold white rice some chilli sauce and Red Leicester to bind together.

Messy though. She's too ill to moan I've spilt rice over the floor.

Off to Screwfix in a mo to get some cable clips. To carry on moving light switch positions in the garage. So I can see the state of the place that bit better.

Expansion tank for a citreon c3 r5 the and fittings where bad they just about welded, normally I'll wipe the fittings down as I've had problems like that in the pSt with them, reckon I earned £5 ph making this

These where give to me along with the other fittings I'll normally give them a bit of scotchbrite and a clean with acetone and it's fine of course I didn't this time
