moving stuff from scotland to bristol

a family member is moving from scotland to bristol area

the problem moving costs any better ideas ?

we phoned a couple moving companys and the costs are not stupid but at £2300 plus vat ish

there is only a fridge, cooker tv chest drawers couple coffee stands and lets say 15/20 boxes of house stuff

at the moment its looking like dumping the near lot and buying new when down here

and posting a few near and dear stuff parseled to me

It would be the hire van option for me to you'd probably easily get that in a lwb hi top transit ring a few big hire companys .

ive been to scotland only recently cost of hire was near 500 inc 1000 miles in 2 days add in it may be short notice a couple weeks to arrange and im not sure i can get the time off to do it and driving 8 hours loading driving 8 hours then unloading is a lot to ask in 2 days

stuff up there will be packed and ready but so loading up the stuff putting in the vehical will be needed

Thats a fair old trek in a lorry, probably £800 in fuel alone.

a long wheel base transit van will carry that lot

and be cheaper on fuel and no tacko involved

id actually have done it for free

just to enjoy the drive

got van near me drove up they packed it got in van drove back down and to bristol and then back to mine and drop it off

all you would have to do was pay the van hire and fuel

as i used to do it this way often sorry i just like driving alot

but at moment cant do it even though i can still drive

im not saying there expensive far from it companys got to make money cover expensise pay people cost of van etc its just the money its costing is not worth cost to the person thats moving as the stuff they got is not worth the £2300 to move

apart from a few keep sakes photos etc that can be packed and posted down

new fridge frezzer £200
new cooker £200
2nd hand drawers £50 for a nice oak set

cost of posting said items clothes photos £200
the person saving the air fair £100 as they could posss come in the van ?

im sure they are other bits to come that would add up but even then its still looking like bin the most stuff post a few items down and still have money for a take away
