Electric black cab charging plug

Hello, my neighbour has an electric black cab, 60 mile range on battery, useless.
It has a 'type 2' plug and socket. Do the brains trust know if the top two male pins on the car socket are almost flush with the surface or is one recessed?
The cab is useless. It has to start on the electric motor, you can't start it on the diesel engine. It won't start if the boot is open. It won't start if the bonnet is open. So many interlocks.
He uses 25 miles of the charge getting into London. No idea why he bought it.

Random, but try messaging “Tom the Taxi Driver” on YouTube. I watch him for time to time. He’s got one and has answered a lot of questions about it from others. Possibly drivers looking to get one as well as curious folk.

He seems personable enough. Worst he can do is ignore you!

Someone will be along who knows the answer soon I’d think but if all else fails that chap might be a useful plan B….

I was charging my car next to one and the driver said he could use type 2 , CHAdeMO dc and the other one

Perfect thanks, yes one pin recessed. I shall stop trying to pull it out with needle nose pliers!

I'm sure Tom the Taxi driver means well but at five minutes in he says "having a chargepoint at home is 3 phase very similar to what your cooker runs..." I don't know whether he's running a full-on cafe for cabbies, but I've never yet had anything more than a single phase cooker in any kitchen I've used (unless they were gas or oil obviously)

Because local govt. policy dictates it. Talk to him about it and you will quickly discover that most of the illogical things happen in london because of local Council Diktat. Especially Camden.

My Range cooker is 3 phase, in the UK you just have to link out the terminals to run it on single phase. It's a big bugger though so needs a 40 amp supply on a 10mm cable.

3 Phase and single phase are two different things 3 phase is 3 seperate supplies. Domestic house wiring is normally single phase only.

Friend of mine sat outside Manchester airport for 2 hours last week waiting for her taxi home to arrive. Turned out it was electric, and the guy could not find a single place with a vacant spot to charge his car on the drive up there.
I would have thought it's something you plan ahead for, doing 150 mile round trip airport runs, but what do I know. It's not a black cab, but maybe it doesn't even do 150 miles to a charge?

It’s the charger normally supplied with the vehicle they limit the charge current to 10A as a normal 3 pin plug isn’t really up to supplying 13A for an extended period, they get a bit warm. The charge point tells the vehicle the maximum current based on what the charge point and the cable plugged in quite clever really. Charge voltage is always 230v mains on a domestic AC charger, the clever charge bit is actually in the vehicle.
