Entering the world of TIG

Hi all, looking for some help if you can please

Looking to invest in a TIG plant. I will be doing aluminium work and other alloys as experience creeps up - joys of hospital and factory work!

Been looking and reading like mad in here but getting really bogged down on what to invest in!
Had a couple slip away on fleabay however a bit reluctant to be buying blind! I've got my eye on the R-Tech TIG Welder Digital AC/DC 210 Amp 240v

This seems to cover all my bases as I do a lot of stick welding so can have that at my bench set up permenantly and cover all bases.
Unfortunately only single phase available.

Got a budget of circa £2000 to play with so looking to get best bang for buck and try to avoid chinesium!

Can anyone recommend any other setups that are conparable/better and for what reason?

I appreciate 'better' is subjective but I am trying to invest a good wedge here so don't want to be stinging myself!

My ac/dc Miller 325 amp 3 phase tig cost me €500, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, no cleaning thing on AC, but bloody hell, it works.

Down sides... Weighs 400 kgs, three phase....

If you’re looking to avoid Chinese made machines you’ll need to avoid the r-tech. They’re good machines but still made in China.

See if you can stretch the budget a bit and get a Lorch Handytig 200. German quality, adjustable everything, but very simple to use. One of the best investments i ever made.

Aye, we do our best with the brand. They’re a resilient bunch and they can churn out some cracking welding sets even in the face of turmoil.

£2K is a sensible budget for a starting tig set.

Chinese machines aren't bad if they have decent UK backup.

Remember, parweld, jasic, r tech,
And most have 5year warranty on there machines or able to extend at least.

A parweld xtt 212 can be had for around £1200.
Jasic 200ac dc for the same money,
R tech I think are a little bit more.

Or as tom said the paton I keep hearing good things about.

But it's your money to spend.

Thanks for the response. Are you able to put a kit together for a starter by any chance? No need for a bucket. Mrs is gonna shoot me if I have another hanging up.. My ass was grass when I bought my airfed for site work!

I'd need machine, pedal, consumables, gauntlets, regulator with flow meter and whatever else I'll need

Thank you, I'm working in a lab build for a high end university and they've bought a lot if Chinese kit for their lab works. Quality is horiffic.. They've used effectively grey silicone to seal a plastic pipe into a stainless steel vessel.. This condenses corrosive and very high temp fume extract from the machines and turns it into powdered Nitrogen or something along those lines. Build quality is frightening and it cost the uni millions.

Terrified of spending a lot of dough on poor quality kit. I appreciate that rtech have good feedback etc within uk and can repair/service their kit and back it all up which gives me confidence however seeing all the chinesiums all over the bay for peanuts gives me the fear!
